We flew from AMS to Tbilisi on 29apr for a non spotting city trip. 737-700 4L-TGO took us there in 04:20. We landed at 17:10 from the south on 31L and being in seat 13F gave me good views towards the terminal, old runway, cargo ramp, small storage area and 1 of the 2 mil ramps. Southern approaches are pretty common. Took some shots of the aircraft in various locations to be identified later.
There are 2 taxiways vacating the runway. One opposite the old terminal building and one at the end. Smaller aircraft with an early touch down point usually take the first exit. Our 737 took the second and last exit as our touchdown was a bit further on the runway than usual.
When using the second and last exit coming in from the south, a left hand seat is preferable as you taxi past the 2 mil ramps, the cargo ramp and the commuter/GA ramp in front of the old terminal. The only spot you do not see on this side, is the small storage area between the old runway and the taxiway. If the aircraft would vacate on the first exit, you do get views (from the back) on the small storage area but the 2 mil ramps are now further away, making identification harder if not possible at all.
I was in a right seat giving me the possibility to only take some shots of the cargo ramp and only 1 mil ramp till the aircraft turned off the runway. I obviously choose the wrong side.
It did give me perfect views on the small storage area though, but a lot of aircraft went begging on the 2 northern mil ramps.
Departure a few days later was also from 31L to the north. Also pretty common. 4L-TGN took us back to AMS at 07:10 and after 04:45 we touched down.
In a left seat you will get a view on the stored 747 at the southern end of the old runway, and in a right seat you will have views (once on the runway) to the, terminal, the old terminal ramp and cargo ramp. Both mil ramps at the end may be in sight but you will be airborne by then.
