Flying only:
93-1085/WM B-2A 509th BW

The Thunderbirds were also parked on the flight line with
F-16C 1 to 3, and 5 to 7, and F-16D 4 and 8. The Blackhawk
was on a grass field at the other end of the static line and was
used to effect, when Jim Leroy crashed in his Pitts Special.
Unfortunately, he died on his way to the hospital. No longer we
enjoy his stunning performances - see the inside back cover
of Scramble 334 - on the ‘who let the dogs out’ tune, the
Bulldog is no more.
Although advertised as a huge show, one of the 60th anniversary
air shows, it was a bit smaller than expected. Of the ‘heavies’
only the B-2A showed up in flight and there were almost as many
navy aircraft present as air force examples. Obviously, the air
show was cancelled after the crash and before the Thunderbirds
could perform. The weather had been a bit muggy all day with a
low cloud base and a lot of humidity. Highlight were the Brazilians
who performed many of their signature moves, flying inverted
seems to be their second nature and they are rather good at it!
