The 90th anniversary of Selfridge ANGB and the 60th
anniversary of the USAF were the two themes of the Selfridge
Open House & Air Show. Selfridge features a north-south
main runway and the public was invited to the eastside of this
runway. The static display was situated at the huge apron of
107th FS on the southeast part of which also acted as a
flightline. The main flightline was on the opposite site of the
runway, home of 93rd ARS (KC-135R) and 171st AS (C-130E),
the latter singing its swansong during the show, with their last
Hercules present. Apart from Friday, photography of the static
was simply impossible, as no fences were present. The flight
demonstrations already took off in the morning, with good
photographic opportunities. After noon, backlight became a
factor. One of the highlights of the show was the display by four
Cobras of the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation’s Sky
Soldiers team.
