Re: NAS North Island--carriers with airwings
I was told CVN-70 returned to SD yesterday with a full deck and CVN-72 arr 23rd with a full deck. So that means two carriers in port with both CVW's embarked. Not sure that happened before?

It's not like I keep a diary or anything, but yah, I haven't seen this in 34 years in town. Working on some panoramas. This morning was the 1st time in a week we had clear(ish) skies in the early AM.

Looks stunning and bizarre that these are both docked at the same time with so many aircrafts on board......Thanks for sharing the pictures!!
If there were no travel restrictions I would book a return flight just to see this !!!

Vinson on morning of 28 July
I'm not trying to drive traffic to Flickr, but if you want details, by all means click thru and view them in original size. You'll get squadron markings, modexs, groups of crew in different parts of the ship, signal flags and an occasional seagull or 3. This photo is a stitch of 7 exposures, shot with a 24MP Nikon D750 and a 200-500 tele, and in original size it measures 20.000 x 3.000 pixels.

Re: NAS North Island--carriers with airwings
Vinson left approx noon today.
Also leaving: America-class LHA-7 USS Tripoli, LCS-22 Kansas City, while Armada de Chile submarine General O'Higgins arrived right after Vinson left. Busy day.
