Forum rules
ImageThis is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum.
Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

Nice.

From which spot are 7 and 8 made?
I can't remember seeing picture from taxing aircraft from Spangdahlem before.

Nope 400mm and cropped. Taken with a 7D Mark II and 100-400 Mark II

From spot 8 in the airfield guide:

Northeast side approach

The approach end of runway 23 can be reached, but you will need to walk for a while. Follow the small road from spot 7 to the forest. You can park your car there and walk to the approach. Keep as near to the base fence as possible and you will end up at a hill with the approach lighting. From here you can read and photograph the aircraft coming in, from either side of the centreline depending on time of day.

Some years ago it was not allowed to take pictures to the field and my camera was checked. Is the situation more relaxed now? That was on the same spot.

It probably depends who is on duty but in any case they will probably not shoot you if you take pictures and the wrong guy is on duty! 😉

The American Police was watching us for quite some time(on and off) and was also patrolling outside the base. Drove by us a few times and also waved friendly. No problems. Just don't bring scanners because they don't like that and I've heard you risk a big fine if they catch you.

AFAIK German law still forbids listening to transmissions by authorities and organisations with security tasks. Using a scanner is not prohibited per se, but it is for the purposes of our hobby.

The AFOSI is very pleased with spotters there as they see them as an "external security force" .
They fully understand our hobby and know that we are only there to take cool pictures.
There's absolutely no trouble taking pictures as long as you ( and even your cameralens) will be over the fence.
