NAS North Island KNZY Sept 2022 MIL + CIV
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

NAS North Island KNZY Sept 2022 MIL + CIV
Identified itself as Rudy 22 to Island Tower
Tower told an H-60 it was #2 behind a 737, and this is what showed up!
Delivery flight for VRM-50 Sunhawks
I was very happy to finally catch this color scheme until I looked thru my records and discovered this was the one-time VADER 1 color bird for VAQ-209 Star Warriors
VAQ-138 Yellow Jackets

For whatever reason, the turbines on the outboard ALQ-99s are spinning while the turbine on the centerline ALQ-99 is not. Most of the Growlers that come into NASNI do that.
No pods, no tanks!
Late afternoon light at the beach
Luckily, more jets came in during golden hour

Another great set op pics (especially the ones during golden hour!) from NAS North Island, thanks for showing!

Hey! Thanks for the kind words. The best thing about living 1/3 mile from Dog Beach is that it's REAL easy to get out there, it doesn't have to be an all day thing. I got lucky in that they were flying the photogenic CAG bird late in the day, AND they came back. It was a 3 ship flight and Dash 3 actually came back after sundown.
These pix are all from earlier in the day(s), light's not as good.

Well sir, I still like 'em!
Again, thanks for showing and for taking the effort to explain how easy it is to visit the NAS for some pics. It makes North Island moving higher up the bucket list when visiting California.

Re: NAS North Island KNZY Sept 2022 MIL + CIV
Delivered just a few weeks ago, and it already has a MODEX. ...now for some paint on the tail...
Depot 11 out of Fleet Readiness Center South West, finishing up a check flight. I read somewhere that the FRC was going to do the air refueling mod to E-2Ds, but I haven't seen any depot Hawkeyes with the modification yet.
Every once in a while we'll get fixed wing USCG assets visiting. 30 years ago, there were Falcon jets based at the station at KSAN, but these days only H-60s are based in San Diego.
