19-21 July 2024; RIAT Fairford

Post by wolfhound32fs »

For 2024 the themes are announced;
- 50th anniversary of the F-16
- Pushing the boundaries in air and space
- NATO 75th anniversary
- 100 years Royal Canadian Air Force

Participating will probably be the D-Day Squadron (will be in Europe for 80 years D-Day; also at Duxford and other places). See: https://www.ddaysquadron.org/2024-legacy-tour

I’m thinking of visiting RIAT next year but not clear for me which day would be the best to be there. Is there a difference in the program across the 3 days or is the program (more or less) the same for all days? Anyone any thoughts based on previous visits?

Regards, CJ

...I think the Friday is rather "light" in flying displays.

You will see more flying demonstrations on either the Saturday -or the Sunday.
The timings will differ per day,
but flying participants will be same on both weekend days, for 95 percent at least.

During the early sunday evening after the public flying programme has ended
a handful of participants in the static display
or on the flightlines
tend to leave.
Some, but not many....

Static participants would be some helicopters,
and lighter aircraft
that are able to taxi out to the runway, so not being "closed in" by other static aircraft.

Monday of course is the main "Departure Day".
Most participants in the static display cannot taxi out to the runway in the weekend,
so they will have to leave on the Monday.

This year, the Park & View tickets for 2023 also sold out quickly. Even though it quickly sold out, anyone could enter for a fee of £28. Hopefully they will be as lenient again next year. You can also be put on the reserve list, but don't expect too much from that. Another option is to become a member of the friends of the RIAT (Very expensive)

Good luck

Also, Friday has only the red and blue sections open for the public (that is the eastern and central part of the showground) green is where the arrivals of static aircraft on Friday will go. That said, Friday has the extra bonus for static aircraft also to be seen in the air. Basiccally you need to decide for yourself which thing is more appealling for YOU.

The June 21-27 schedule makes an appearance at RIAT very very uncertain.

Indeed, most probably only the European based Dakotas will participate in RIAT. Unfortunate timing..!

This week, work has continued with a variety of nations who hope to send their aircraft to RIAT 2024.
For most Air Forces, whilst initial planning has begun,
it is not until the Spring
when we can expect to receive formal confirmation of their participation,
and add the aircraft to our participation list.

Of particular interest this week is the intent from Zambia to send an aircraft,
after their last minute cancellation in 2023.
