Scanner Uniden Bearcat UBC 220 XLT

Hello all,

I have some questions.

Through an acquaintance I recently got a scanner. It's an oldie, as I'm told, a Uniden Bearcat UBC 220 XLT. Is it, despite its age, any good?
As I'm totally new to this, which are the best frequencies to use at Dutch military airbases and for listening in on military aviation while at home?

Hi,

With this scanner you can receive the VHF civil air band; UHF military air band isn't possible.

"Best" frequencies at military bases are mainly in the UHF band. "Frequencies at home" depends on your antenna and location of your home.

UBC125XLT is an affordable handheld scanner which is ok for our purpose. At Marktplaats several can be found. With "Scan125" a free program it can be easily programmed via your PC.

A good portable antenna is the Diamond RH-771 VHF/UHF Antenne 40cm BNC-Male.

That's the scanner I got as a birthday present two years ago. I thought it would be an easy to use thing.
Loooong time a go when I was a teenager I had a small radio with aviation band. Just a knob to dial the frequency. Worked okay for me. I thought a scanner would be the same but with a digital frequency selection and a memory to store some frequencies. Just that.

But it may be my thick skull, I just can't comprehend this thing. I had hoped to download a file somewhere with all the dutch aviation frequencies (specially mil) and upload it to the scanner and be ready. But this thing has so many functions and a weird user interface that I don't know where to start. So it is still new and unused in a cabinet....
