Just happened less than an hour ago.
2 crew picked up by harbor tour boat MV Marietta. Coast Guard deploying 1000 feet of fuel containment boom in vicinity of channel markers 14 & 15 (per radio chatter).
I /think/ it was a Growler, saw one go by at approximate time, but can't say for sure.
The weather is pretty bad, rain, low clouds and everybody landing this morning was making radar approaches.
Island Tower just told somebody they are closed until further notice.
San Diego Harbor Cam is just showing fog, but they have real time audio of the marine radio freqs.

Re: KNZY jet in the water
TV news says Navy confirms it was a Growler. I saw Star Warriors and Black Ravens in the last 2 days.
Crew being checked out in hospital.

Just saw a video where you see it almost vertically diving into the ground/water...

Re: KNZY jet in the water
All the local TV stations have been having updates on this all day long. Navy says jet came from VAQ-135 Black Ravens-- I actually caught a couple of them over the beach the past 2 days.
Saw the impact video, and a couple stills. Like the man says, came in almost vertical and hit just outside the shipping channel in the area between the bait barges and Shelter Island.
Not from me...video and some photos if you go thru comments...

Re: KNZY jet in the water
Military updated the local news stations...
https://www.cbs8.com/article/news/local ... 70027dc213
Article shows 2 important items: a piece of the jet showing modex 520 and a part of a nautical chart showing exactly where the jet came in.
It hit less than 50 yards from the marine mammal pens next to Scripps Pier. Water depth varies between 20 and 5 feet, it's right at the edge of a marked shoal.
The Navy is working from a barge using hard hat divers. The barge apparently isn't using an active transponder, it isn't showing up on marinetraffic.com.
Crew was released from hospital she v day as crash but hasn't been named.
