I found another F-4E, carrying a "dart"-target. This Phantom was equipped with the TISEO-system (Target Identification System Electro-Optical), a kind of long tele-zoom (you can see it mounted in the left wing).

PS: Does anybody not what was producing so much smoke in the back, was it an engine test?

If I remember well, it was in May or June 1986 there were 2 making an overshoot in the late afternoon between 17:30hr.-18:30hr. local time.
And what I rembered than, that they made 2 days this overshoot proximatly at the same time and they stayed in the U.K. at that time.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Kind regards,
Arjan

That is correct. The LV-coded A-7's were in Europe for evaluation flights for the then very secret F-117's. Rumours were the F-117's were also in Europe then.

I still remember 13MAY1986, being at home in Amersfoort in the late afternoon.
I heard them on my scanner: Caddy23 and Caddy24 inbound Cornfield, theafter PD to Soesterberg, back to the UK.
When Dutch Mil asked for the type of aircraft, I went nuts when they responded "A-7".

I made it on time on my bike to Soesterberg to see 70-1005/LV and 70-1020/LV in the overshoot.

On the 14th "005" made an overshoot again with another A-7, which remains unidentified. This time as Caddy21 and Caddy 22.

That's also what I've heard at that time about the F117's.

A 32nd TFS Eagle in a bit unusual configuration with only a centreline ECM pod.

Image

For evaluation of a attack helicopter there was a A129 Mangusta present at Soesterberg. I remeber also a Dauphin being evaluated
