Hello, i spotted 3 days at LHR .
This is the first day in heavy-haven :

Today the landing rwy was 27R and take of from 27L.
70 % of the year those 2 rwy’s are in use.
They change runway-use at 15.00 so from then landings on 27L.
When 27R is in use for landing, you can spot aircraft from different locations
like the visitor centre. Since this year only a small part of it is used for viewing. Also the carpark in front of it is a good spot, maybe not for photographers.(i just collect regi’s).
If you stay overnight i recommend the Renaissance hotel wich offer special spotter-packs
for one night for 93 pound wich includes room with view on rwy (garanteed) with breakfast (i bet you would not take time for that) . This hotel is next to the visitor centre and is the no. 1 spotting hotel.
Another great airport hotel is the Premier Travel Inn at Bath Road (at the perimeter of the airport). Only rooms 2068 – 2091 will offer a great view of the maintenance-area and the 27R treshold. One night about 80 pounds per room.

At 15.00 i went to Hatton cross by bus (busses within a certain area around LHR are free, avoid Hoppa-bussses wich cost you 4 pound a ride) and i spotted from the tube-station.
Also Myrtle avenue is a great spot especially for photographers, but some shots can also been taken from the metro station.

Hello, here another log from LHR
June 1st 2007

08.00 – 22.00


The rwy use of today was 09L for landing and 09R for take-off.
In the early morning also rwy 09R was used for landing. This rwy configuration was used the entire day, because 09L is never used for departures.
If you stay in the Premier Travel Inn : leave the hotel. This spot is worthless when using the 09’s.
If you stay in the Renaissance, you still can read the regi when the aircraft is getting of the rwy after landing on 09L. For photographers : take bus 81 to BA waterside, get off there
and walk to a spot where you can have an unobstructed view of the aircraft (quiet a walk).
The sun is facing you from the left when taking pictures until about 17.00.
Where the bus stops at BA waterside there is also a great spot at the Hystle hotel.
This hotel has a terrace behind the breakfast room wich offers you great views of the landing of 09L. Also good for taking pictures before the planes partly dissappear behind the trees.
The terrace is also available for non-guests of the hotel.
For taking pictures at 09R : take bus 805 from Hatton Cross and get off at the World Cargo Centre and walk along the perimeter road to the treshold (quiet a walk either) or spot from the carpark at T4.

Spent the day again at the terrace from the Hystle hotel with in one hand my binoculars
and in the other a coke. No kids, no wife but one heavy after another touching down in front of you.
Life can be very easy sometimes.

When starting at Hatton Cross, walk towards Myrtle Avenue. When you pass Myrtle Avenue, just keep on walking towards Terminal 4. After a while there will be a big wall on your right side (opposite of the (busy) road). Cross the street and from there you'll have a good view on the traffic departing RWY 09R.

On daily base: many BA, Virgin, AA, AC flights; further more just wait and see; SAA 3x, QF 3-5x, NZ 3x just to name some few.

Many planes you don't see @ AMS and due to security the info isn't as open as AMS.

All Nippon B777's are now operating in to LHR. The pattern seems to be every other day, alternating with B747's. JA736A noted 26/5/07 and JA734A on 28/5/07.
