Tell me about the beer! I've been there aswell.
Not at Axalp but to different airbases. Like
Payerne, Emmen, Meiringen, etc.
It's a great coutry for making great shots
like you did on Axalp.

Unfortunatly.. it won't be long before they (the swiss airforce) will place fences around their airbases.. Too bad. (heard that from some locals).

Why are they placing fences around
their airbases? Are they troubled with the number
of spotters or what?

Just curious: what camera and glass do you use?

Edit: Never mind... I just found an EXIF reader that actually works on my Mac

Pretty lucky there! The J3089 is, although painted in PdS colours, not a regular with the team. As far as I know it doesn´t have the smoke installation and rarely (if ever) comes along with team performances. It is actually one of the rarer birds of the Swiss AF. Lucky you to see it like this in such a great setting!

Well.. they got 2 of them.. and they both flew  And indeed.. the difference is that these aircraft are missing some markings. (the http://www.patrouille-suisse.ch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) on the fuselage ;)

Not sure of the date next year (probably second week of october or so). Finding Axalp is not that hard. Just drive up to the village of Axalp very early in the morning and follow the others up the mountain. Below is a map:

Image

While finding the Axalp range is not that hard, getting up there is. It requires a least two hours of walking, hiking and climbing up some steep slopes. Bring extra food, water and some dry and warm clothes. Also, be sure to wear good shoes and bring a headlight with you. You''ll start climbing while it's dark and without some light, you will have difficulties finding your way.

But once you're there, it's great!

I don't know the exact reason, but it has to something with politics i've been told.
