Josti Band Topic?? This is fun !! They had a really good group at Soesterberg at the time. Just like our group in Twenthe / Hopsten. Those were the days. I think you're just jealous because you weren't part of such a group. And remember that a lot of those guys are still around and became respectable photographers/spotters. We were the founding fathers of the way spotting is conducted nowadays so to speak.
:!lol!: Haha, did you also play in our football team against 322 and 323 SQN back in the late70's/early 80's?
Fighter pilots against spotters!
Was great fun playing against the fighter pilots you saw flying every day in their 104's and later F-16's!
Sad thing is some are not amongst us anymore, both pilots and spotters.
Me yalous at those SSB guys? NO WAY!
Every time we played against/with them was great fun! Only that f@cking beer for fl 0,25 cents stood in our way! [Well sometimes]
And off the record: those groups still exists here at LWD!
Only thing what frustrates me when I see those Josti Bands guys is that they spoiled it for us here at LWD!
[And I dont say it's one of those people on the photographs, but it may be!]
And indeed those were the days!

This gives a slighly bad impression on the hobby as illustrated in other threads where plane spotters express their political views.

Very, very funny, those pictures. I wonder who are still active as a spotter or work in the aviation business or have already children with the same hobby (I do). And I miss a lot of Soesterberg spotters, like Robert Hoeting (nowadays a pilot with Air Dolomiti), René (don't know his last name, a bit long hair, he travelled by bus, he only wrote numbers and had a half binoculars), 3 brothers Duurland (at least one of them studied in Delft), Johan van de Bunt and his older brother (I saw Johan at one of the pictures), and so on. I also remember the J-79 magazine.

Greetings from Remco 'de rechter' de Wit, who is still active as a spotter now and then and who has a very active son: Joost de Wit, webmaster of http://www.aviaspotters.nl

Just to add to all positive remarks made: I love these shots, eventhough I have only found myself once on the pics.

If the mission is completed, Roel, I'd very much like a copy on full size on CD-R.

One question: Where are all those car wreck pictures with "wounded" spotters inside? Those were very funny, especially the one at the real accident where two guys posed as victims ( I think they were HvdV and PvhK, but not 100% sure about that).

AFAIK they're all still 'around'...
Erwin is the one you miss and the one who did TU. Patrick quit plane spotting at some time I believe (was more into armoured vehicles) and Ron is and was a die-hard spotter. The three of them were Scramble's fixed source for Soesty moves for years: 'E+P+R Duurland'.
