His real (first) name was Leo, and he lived in Zeist. A real jerk, but not dangerous . Good to see his face, too, in this topic."balthazar" (can't remember his real name)

1975 <> 1977
Hi All,
Last days/week I follow this thread VERY NICE !!! some old (nice funny) memories back here !!
I started in 1974 ("Gat van Tammer") and busy to 1977 @ the Batenburgweg, Maybe you remember some names: Kees Kesterloo and Jan Schets frequently also on that spots there
The last one started (not sure??) the 'Spotting Group Soeterberg club' .. include with T-Shirts
I started in 1977 with my first job, and no time to visit the operational days at SSB, only airshows etc. till now
But look here a picture that I took in that years 1975 <> 1977 (with the nice Spotting Group SSB T-shirts)
I remember me some names maybe you can help with the other ones
I try to find some more pics !!
greetings
Peter Steehouwer

Peter,
That's a great shot. You are right about Jan Schets, he's the "founder" of SGS.
I've got a few additions to your picture:
1. Pleeborstel (don't think that's his real name )
2. ?
3. Dick Wels
4. John Kraaikamp
5. ?
6. Ron Damstra
7. Hans Drost
8. Frans Tjallingii (became F16 pilot later)
9. ?

Hello,
I'm sorry to inform everybody that earlier today I received the news that one of the person regularly shown on those images, Dimitri Schmidt, has passed away.
Anybody wishing to be kept informed on his funeral, please send me a mail at hans.hoogers@scramble.nl.
My thoughts go to his parents and brother.
Regards,
Hans

This is another of such messages you do not want to receive, especially this time of year. Dimitri was a very special person, in many ways, and I have such good memories with him. Not at the least, winning the NSK with him for SGHK some years ago.
My condolences to his family and friends, this must be difficult times.
Dimitri, we will miss you! Please, rest in peace.
