Air Astana makes GBP 1 billion aircraft purchase

Post by JS50557 »

Kazakhstan’s national airline, Air Astana, is to sign Letters of Intent for the purchase of nine new Airbus and Boeing aircraft as part of a US$1 billion fleet investment.

In addition to firm orders for six Airbus A320 and three Boeing 787-8 aircraft, the airline will place options/purchase rights on a further three Airbus A320 and three Boeing 787-8 aircraft valued at US$736 million.

All aircraft will be powered by Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines and deliveries will start from 2012.

The airline’s president Peter Foster said: “This order represents Air Astana’s first order to purchase its own aircraft, consistent with its strategic business plan which will see the fleet expanding from 18 aircraft at present to 63 aircraft in 2022”.

Air Astana currently operates a fleet of Boeing 767/757, Airbus A3210 / A321 and Fokker 50 aircraft across its network of 21 international and 25 domestic routes.

The airline is a joint venture between the Samruk State Holding (51%) and Britain’s BAE Systems (49%).

Gulf Air places four billion dollar order with Boeing

Post by JS50557 »

The Bahrain-based airline Gulf Air has ordered 16 Boeing 787 Dreamliners valued at around four billion dollars and taken options for eight more, an airline official told AFP on Saturday.

"Gulf Air has signed today (Saturday) with Boeing a firm order for 16 Boeing 787 aircraft and taken the right to purchase eight more of the same aircraft," Adnan Malek, acting head of corporate communication at Gulf Air said.

The value of the firm order for the new long-haul jets at list price is around four billion dollars, while the total amount would go up to six billion dollars if options are firmed up in the future, he added.

The struggling carrier had announced during the Dubai air show that it was planning to renew its entire fleet looking to order up to 35 planes.

Gulf Air's newly appointed chief executive Bjorn Naf said during the show that the company was holding intensive talks with Boeing and its European rival Airbus, but he did not rule out leasing some aircraft.

The cash-strapped airline aims to build up a fleet of 45 to 50 aircraft by 2013, compared to 25 aging planes now, he said.

The announcement of the order with Boeing came as US President George W. Bush started a two-day visit to Bahrain, the first-ever by a US president to the key non-NATO ally, which is home to US Navy's Fifth Fleet and one of the few Middle Eastern states to have a free trade deal with the United States.

Founded in 1974, Gulf Air was owned equally by the governments of Bahrain and Oman until the latter announced in May it was withdrawing from the airline. Qatar and Abu Dhabi withdrew in 2002 and 2005 respectively.

The airline announced in March that its projected debt at the end of 2007 would be 254 million Bahraini dinars (676 million dollars).

I think that some people on a small island off the coast of China disagree on that.
I'm not sure wether it's your quote, or the link that this computer I'm sitting at , refuses to open.

Air Europa Líneas Aéreas (UX/AEA), Spain, has announced that it has ordered 8 B787-8s from Boeing. So there goes one of the original A350 orders that hadn't yet been reconfirmed.
Press report (with the wrong dates) can be found here.

And re the other discussion, mainland China is the Peoples Republic of China, and the "other" China is the Republic of China.
