My balcony is situated at the 12th floor of a flat at the southwestern tip of Haarlem. In between the "westelijke randweg" and the railroad Haarlem-Leiden.

The picture was taken from my western balcony from wich I have a direct view on Zandvoort (if the weather is clear that is). Planes are often inbound over Zandvoort where they make either a lefthand (for 18R and C) of righthand (for 06) turn.

Come to think of it, the MD-11 could have been outbound instead of inbound, I'm not too familiar with the routes.

Based on your description the MD is definitely on downwind, Hans.

With downwind you mean in this case the MD is inbound EHAM?

In which case my first observation would be correct? :)

Yep. So he's technically not 'cruising' but on approach, entering the circuit for probably 18R. The attitude fits with that (little or no flaps but reduced speed).
Will make a right turn usually near IJmuiden and then another one roughly near the Gatso residence to pick up the ILS. That 747 is about to join the circuit after him, flying from the west towards the beacon SPL in your pic.

Thanks for the additional info Erik.

With "cruising along the coastline" I actually meant cruising like in cruisin'over a boulevard with a car

Atlas B747 on final for 06 as seen from my (other, southern) balcony.

Although I do think I should be starting to set aside money for some more millimeters as this image is approximately a 50% crop of the original.

Nice Hans, looks exotic!
Don't spend too much money on mm for this work, the lack of clearness of air in this country doesn't make that rewarding. However, for other purposes... ;)

Thanks.

Like the AWACS. Too bad the chance to these above my balcony are rather slim I think. Luckily there still is the photo forum :D

@Erik:

I wasn't sure if it were the mm's, the air or a combination. But indeed, for other purposes the mm's would do just fine

Three made today:

1.

2. This Cessna 402B made two passes right over the building. It is owned by Geocart Herten to conduct aerial photography.
Image

3. The second MD-11 of KLM to stir up the neighbourhoud... But no complaints from me though! :D

From the Balcony @ Haarlem-Noord. JA711J is seen climbing on runway heading RWY 36L, today saturday the 10th at an approximate quarter to nine.
Distance between me and the aircraft is +/- 4.3 Km, I'm afraid this is the best I can with that.
Sometimes, however, a Fokker 50 (VLM, KLC), Dash 8 (BEE) or ATP (WLX) pass my apartment in such a turn that 'okay' photos are possible. I have not had the right opportunity though.

I'm afraid more millimeters won't help much indeed. A bit more steady hand maybe, but still; the distance ....
