Re: some good pld thunderstreak and thunderflash stuff
My comment wasn't meant to be patronizing, just giving some background !bingo20 wrote:In my simplicity i thought that towing a Streak was as easy as riding a bicycle , Mickey, although even that can be difficult in today's traffic !
therefore now a serious tribute to the "towing guys"

Great pic of P-195! It flew with 312 when my dad was crew-chief there. He has some pics of P-201 and P-195 on the same dispersal, him posing in front of P-201. Must scan those!

Tribute to the Flash and the Streak
from 1962 to 1972 the Operational Conversion Course (OCC) was assigned to 315 squadron at Eindhoven ; after succesfully having completed the elementary training some 300 Belgian and Dutch
pilots learned to fly their first real fighter plane in that period ; no two-seat F-84F was available and students had to go solo from the first day!
the tutor was talking over the radio and giving instructions to the pupil.
amongst others approach-landings had to be trained over and over as this picture shows :
the instructor in the background in the P-170 (ready for an overshoot)and the student in the P-179(ready for landing)

the flight-line of 315 squadron on October 21st, 1969
again some of them seem "asleep", while others are not : sorry Mickey!
by the way , nice pic you sent in last time ; you took it yourself? what are the P-regs of the aircraft in the formation ? I couldn't read all of them.

Well , at least this P-reg is clearly visible !
Once again thanks to Frits Spangenberg for taking this splendid close-up back in 1968. Look with respect , folks, since this is not what you see every day!

Thank you , Mickey ! that means that your picture was most probably taken somewhere between January and September 1962 if i have compared the IRAN (Inspection and Repair As Necessary) dates of these particular aircraft correctly.

Tribute to the Flash and the Streak
Let's not forget the photo-reconnaissance version of the Streak :the RF-84F Thunderflash !
this example(ex 51-11253)is the same as the one that Mickey sent in on page 5 of this Topic: it was obtained from the Hellenic Air Force in 1988 for the purpose of displaying it in the Military Air Force Museum in Soesterberg; it originally served with the RNLAF from 1956 to 1963 as"TP-19" and "P-5" ; the paint-shop of MLM did a good job in repainting it in its former colours!

The MLM? The Flash was brought to Valkenburg in its Greek camouflage and left Valkenburg in its Dutch colours. That was in 1989 I guess. Maybe it was repainted by the MLM more recently?it originally served with the RNLAF from 1956 to 1963 as"TP-19" and "P-5" ; the paint-shop of MLM did a good job in repainting it in its former colours!

according to my information the painting was done at Valkenburg by MLM personnel ; it seems that we are both right ;on July 26th , 1989 i took this picture in one of the Exposition Halls of MLM (Soesterberg) which was then being reconstructedSlijfie wrote:The MLM?
