To answer your question: I flew Jet2 from AMS to LBA and had myself picked up there by a friend of mine who lives in Manchester. He told me that DUS-MAN of BRU-MAN with FlyBe might be a kind of affordable option, when flying in the weekend though.
Saturday, I was at the Airpark all day, a position with sun ahead until about 3-4pm.
Sunday I went to the opposite position: drive around the airport to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel. There is a public footpath with takes you up a hill where you are straight in front of the position where all departing planes line up.
Every morning between 6-12am the 'new' runway is used for all take-offs (it's btw the runway where the infamous TopGear item was shot).
And yes, I was very lucky with the wheather
