Put your camera on a tripod. Select a low iso, and then take the longest shutterspeed or use bulb. And just wait and see

Well normally you use a tripod, yes. Although if you look a bit closer, you can see I made it from out of my window (rightside of the pic). Now obviously I can't get the mount of my tripod outside of my window so I had to improvise a little bit. I opened my window about 20 centimeters (note: wind was in my back so my camera didnt get wet). Made a little platform between my 'raamkozijn' (word and spelling?

).

First quite a big book, then two scrambles (yes Scramble isn't just good for aviation information and news!!

) and then a big map on top which gave me quite a good and stable platform. Stable enough for a 4 second shutterspeed. Now just count the intervals between every flash, yesterday it was about every 13-14 seconds, open shutter just before that and hope you get the big one. You require a bit of luck, but it will do the job for me. And this one wasn't the biggest. One lightning was really immense, it was like a checkerboard in the sky made of lightning, it was amazing

I wasn't lucky enough to catch that one, but I shouldn't complain, really happy with the result!!

Yesterday I used the lowest possible ISO value, f/2.8 and a 4 second shutterspeed. Although I can imagine when there's less lightnings that you want a 10 second+ shutterspeed, untill now I never tried that but that would mean you can use a higher diafragma. Hmm now I come to think of it, that might be even better for next time

Mine is taken with a long shutterspeed (30 sec), since the thunderstorm wasnt that bad.

I have to admit that I hadn´t noticed that this topic existed before I started the skies and clouds topic. Maybe a moderator wants to combine these topics, as they are quite similar in a way. And maybe not.

No apologies needed, because I'm not sure if you could have known. My topic started out in the "Photo Forum", because initially it was about balloons in Joure.
Because of this storm no balloons went up, and then the topic received answers of people who could relate to the "storm".
After that the moderator moved the topic to "Tattle Lounge", because it started out in English (as required by the rules of the "Photo Forum"

But yes... the two topics are becoming somewhat intertwined by now

The topic was moved from the photo forum because this one is for showing your aviation pictures. But as can be seen in this forum a lot of people want to show their non-aviation pictures. The Tattle Lounge (English) and Praethuis (Dutch) can be used for this kind of pictures.

We can combine the two topics into one weather (phenomenon) topic which is suitable for showing pictures of lightning, skies and clouds, heavy rains, snow and so on.

Ofcourse, technically you can't get 'close' to a rainbow but it does look close

Well... it is close, because the trees are at around 200 meters distance and the rainbow is in front of those.

By the way, didn't notice it the first time I looked, but the small (and clearest) rainbow seems a bit strange. It goes straight to green after violet :O

And after that another layer of violet...!
This is a crop of that third picture. In Photoshop the left-level is adjusted to make the picture darker, then sharpened with usm to 110% and saved. No more manipulation was done...
