I'm still hoping for the F-35. There was already a discussion about it in another topic but I think it's more advanced in comparisson to the Gripen, which is from a previous generation. The F-35 has more stealth capabilities, internal weapon storage etc. I liked the X-32 from Boeing even more though, the X-32 had a far nicer look in my opinion.

Gripen all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!

why spending to much money on a Yank while we can get a cheaper ( and as good ) plane on our own continent?

I realy thought that our goverment was all about makin' "a stronger Europe"

No, just kiddin', I realy think that the JAS-39NG is better for us.
Why do we realy need "Stealth"??
In our modernday defence system we "fight" terrorism.
I realy don't think that these guys have radar or whatsoever

Again,

I think that for our country / economy the JAS-39NG the best deal is.

And what happens if Russia becomes ever more aggressive and poses a threat to European stability? We have seen the way the country seems to develop in their Georgia action. It may once again become a possibile adversary. And what about China? In the future we may come into conflicts in other parts of the world where China may be on the other side.

We are not buying an airplane for now, but a weapon system for the next decades. Just look at how much longer than intended we are using the present F-16 fleet. Any acquisition must be "future proof" for a period longer than we may anticipate right now.

That said, with present developments in Russia, it may become more important to look at numbers also. What use would just a few super high tech stealth aircraft be against a massive Russian threat in say Ukrain? So we should look at less expensive options such as Gripen and F-16 as well.

Gimme Gripen !
It is far more elegant.

I don't like the JSF at all .........
Also from photographic point of view, I prefer the Gripen.

Though you have a point, I somehow have the feeling that the whole discussion is not about "either 85 JSF or 120 Gripens". In that case I rather opt for stealth as this masive russian army will surely deploy radar guided SAMs and AWACS ...

In fact I don't even think we will get 85 at all, be it Gripens or JSF's..

the Gripen has already a far less radar signature then the F-16 (i guess) so harder to spot then an F-16

anyway if you look at the picture.... the amound of weaponry on the Gripen is far more then the internal bays of an F-35 can handle. So i think in one sortie of the gripen/ the F-35 has to do more runs to it's base than the Gripen....

So the fighterpower is better put in to action with a Gripen then with a F-35
