Phantoms at Soesterberg
Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |

Phantoms at Soesterberg
Here are some images out of the 70-ties. The days you had to screw to change lenses. Only focus manal and use 50 iso or less to avoid grain. Also a good contition was a pre to get outof the hands of the LB (secrurity) Often you had to run after taking a pic.
Hope you enjoy.
And some visitors:
Saw this one (WR 749 ) coming in during geography, made it while I should have gymnastics:
Hope you enjoy.

Wow Henk !
It looks like I started a couple of years too late. Wish I had seen CR-Phantoms myself. Nice nostalgic contributions.
Cheers,
Iwan

Fantastic pics Henk.
Re: Phantoms at Soesterberg
Story goes that one (or more) 32nd Phantoms had a shark's mouth as nose art. Does anyone of you this is a true story? And when it is do you have an image of it.

I already wondered why spotters grow so fat these days.

Re: Phantoms at Soesterberg
While Henk was trying to stay out of the hands of the guards I just kept on taking my pics.
Early seventies 32TFS traded their FY68 F4 for brand new FY74 examples.
This one came in straight from the factory.
Often one F4 carried a target for others to shoot at.
These came back missing the rear part, that obviously had to be picked up out of the sea.
A view in snow was rare, then as well as now.

Re: Phantoms at Soesterberg
To Henk: I'm at a loss for words... what a time that must have been...
They're all stunning pics, but somehow I particularly love the ones that show white (rather than black) stenciling all over the aircraft, like for instance F-4E '444'.
Keep 'm coming sir, we'll be waiting!
Stephan

I.ve heard the story, but never seen a 32 TFS Phantom with a sharkmouth. But I had loved to see one!sabk9 wrote:Story goes that one (or more) 32nd Phantoms had a shark's mouth as nose art. Does anyone of you this is a true story? And when it is do you have an image of it.
