One reminder from above

Image
The old 298 Sqn and 300 Sqn platform, the hangar in the back with the three red doors is the oldest hangar at Vliegbasis Soesterber. It was build in 1928.

And one from below

Today I went for a nice bikeride around SSB and I noticed that the big radar at the north of the field is still in use. Does anybody know if this radar will be staying there? It must be a Dutch Mil radar, since SSB Tower is not in use anymore.
I forgot too take my camera  . so no picture.....

And the gliders where active today, using the good old 129.9750 MHz.

What I heard is that it will stay because it also used by NM for a part of the radarcoverage over the Netherlands.

Yes, due to radar coverage in this part of the Netherlands ATC will remain this location!

I took these two pics yesterday, during the "open depot dagen". I've shot them through the window of a moving bus, don't expect too much!

The well known zulu-hangar.

Not the best quality pics I've seen so far of a closed SSB, but they capture the strange empty atmosphere very well...

Yes thats true. And everytime I enter the base, and I see all buildings, hangars and shelters, its strange to imagine that all planes and movements are gone for ever.

The only way to keep EHSB alive is the virtual way as you can see on the screenshots.
