Hyakuri: Phantomville, Japan
Hi,
On our third day in Japan we visited Hyakuri. Last time I was in Japan, I did not manage to shoot any RF-4s but this time luck was on our side. We started the day near the checkpoint for runways 03. There is a lot of construction going (they are resurfacing runway 03R) so you have to photograph carefully not to have bulldozers on your pictures. Nevertheless, a great spot for morning photography!
1). The group in action:
2) Shots of aircraft taxiing can be made with 200mm:
3) Special c/s Eagle:
4) At last! An RF-4 from 501 Hikotai:
5) Yippee!
6) And ofcourse some "normal" Phantoms:
7) Eagles:
Around noon we went to the other site of the runway. As said, they are resurfacing runway 03R so all traffic uses the new runway 03L. As the base fence has stayed on the same location, photography is great here (80mm for a Phantom). It is rumoured that around October the military aircraft will use 03R again and 03L will only be used for civil aircraft.
9) Landing Eagle:
10) Afternoon take-off (taken with 200mm+ 1.4 converter on a DSLR):

Re: Hyakuri: Phantomville, Japan
Well, I was not planning to post them, but of you insist. These were taken last week on Saturday. IMHO Yokota is not the best place for photography: low activity, boring aircraft (especially compared to Japanese a/c). Just out of curiosity: why are you interested in Yokota pictures?K-9 wrote:Great shots !

1) Visiting last week was this "AK" C-17. As you are quite some distance from the runway you can see the heathaze:
2) Four Hornets from Iwakuni made a tankstop on their way to Chitose:

I agree with the above, too bad I had to plan the SSCC and EDI certification in this period (you know what I mean )Andras wrote:Arnold! Yeeha!

Re: Hyakuri: Phantomville, Japan
Yokota Herks and Marines Bugs.......yes indeed.......a very, very boring field!! Hello! I'll trade it for Volkel any time!
Anyway, I can see your point that US stuff is not really the game you hunt for. Going all the way to Japan you'll go for the F-4's, F-'15's and bright coloured aircraft. But I think it's rather nice to see pictures from this base as well.
Thanks a lot!
Best regards,
Arjan

Sapperdeflap, Arnold
That's what I call a GREAT report!
Nice to see the Naha F-4's still carry the "old" markings.
Well done!

@Remco:
I see your point..after two weeks of Japanese hardware you obviously get a little bit spoiled..Yokota Herks and Marines Bugs.......yes indeed.......a very, very boring field!! Hello! I'll trade it for Volkel any time!

I know, lucky bastard...I agree with the above, too bad I had to plan the SSCC and EDI certification in this period (you know what I mean )

1 waiting in the fields for some action and action we got on a rumoured to be low flying activity day.
2 as it should be on a Phantomville... (once we had 4 F-4EJ's on the last chance and 4 on the runway, to bad it did not fit in my lens)

Re: Hyakuri: Phantomville, Japan
are you really talking to Arnold or to me? If to Arnold, please look at the latest edition of Scramble? Cobra on the cover and a Hercules inside. If to me yes, I was on the same trip. Pics will follow in due course.
