@Soul_Fire: does it have to fly across the English Channel then? I thought he would just cross the Northsea?

i have no idea what the exact route would be, but that's what i heard. Maybe they mean northsea. The fact remains that the flight will not take place today, because of th weather.

I'm actually pleased it is not today as I left my camera at home - would have been gutted if I missed it.

Hoi,

Wat ik niet begrijp is dat men vroeger in de 2e wereldoorlog wel met diverse soorten weer vloog en dan kan het nu ineens niet???...
Wel typisch voor dit.

We wachten wel af of ze de Lancaster nog op komen halen.

Heeft zeer waarschijnlijk met de afweging doel versus risico te maken...
Het doel van de vlucht toen was anders dan nu, en aangezien er nog slechts 2 Lancasters vliegwaardig zijn ter wereld is het een legitieme afweging om de risico's zo veel mogelijk te beperken om en de crew, en het historische toestel, niet onnodig aan risico's zoals die van harde wind, extreme regenbuien en onweer bloot te stellen.

En in de Tweede Wereldoorlog vlogen ze ook zeker niet met elk soort weer! Een tour of duty voor een bommenwerperpiloot bestond uit 35 missies (dit is overigens een aantal keren veranderd, maar even voor deze statement) en ik ken een verhaal van een vlieger die voor deze missies minstens honderd keer een briefing heeft doorgaan voordat hij deze missies compleet had! Dus twee op de drie zijn gecancelled en honderd keer opstaan om drie uur 's ochtends met een knoop in je maag is geen pretje! En dit was zeker geen uitzondering.

I've flown several times with the DDA DC-3 towards England and then the route was AMS - past the coastline - Vlissingen and then over the Northsea to the UK.

Goedemorgen allen,

Ik hoop toch echt dat hij vandaag gaat.
Ik zit er helemaal klaar voor met mijn camera die ik al een tijdje meesleep naar mijn werk voor nix.
Morgen mag ook nog maar daarna zit ik een weekendje in La douche France.

Als ik iets zie gebeuren laat ik het meteen weten.

DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!!

The one day I have two appointments in Amsterdam and I have to leave work early, I get two phone calls - one from a mate who was just over the road admiring her, and another going on about how he had just seen her flying over the Jordaan - and I was in a data centre in Zuid-oost

Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease don't leave until tomorrow - I would so love to see her fly. If anyone has any updates regarding her final departure, please let us know

Incidentally, I guess this is kind of a big deal having a classic bird like this at Schiphol, but can some of the regulars tell me if there are many guests of this pedigree landing and stopping in Schiphol Oost?
