Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
Guys, I've uploaded your answer to whether the Connie is going to fly.
http://www.airliners.net/photo/KLM---Ro ... 1527954/L/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Please mail a link to this topic to as many aviation friends as possible.
After about 8 years of hard labor we the involved Aviodrome workers(paid and unpaid) are pretty sick and tired of this ongoing BS and as far as I can see the only option left is a lot of noise from you.
We all want to see the Connie fly, don't we ?......... don't we ??
Good Luck,
Willem
ps. don't hesitate to fire your questions.

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
The reason that KLM says NO? And why can KLM decide what the Aviodrome is doing with N749NL?
Hope it will not be the case that she is grounded forever....

Dear Willem,
Do not understand what the problem is other than that the KLM replied NO to a sofar unknown question.
Please be more specific.
Regards,
Humphrey

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
Is this now more or less "official" ?
And what does this mean? That KLM will not support the Constellation this year, at least not financially?
Are there new technical problems, or does KLM now suddenly have "cold feet"

Humphrey, we don't understand ourselves.
Some more info here:

Stratofreighter, the Connie is financially self supporting.
Paid by many gifts from people and company's completely separate from the museum also the airshow bookings for this year are in place.
We performed a successful full power taxi program last night.
We need 2 new spark plugs, that's it.

That "pulling the plug"... What does that mean in practice?
The thread at
http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forum ... n/4418366/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you're referring to shows the effort made during 2008/2009, but in what way is KLM now making the return to flight of N749NL impossible
Is it financially by withholding funds? Is it because the Constellation is painted up in KLM-livery and someone suddenly got cold feet?
It took the Save-A-Connie crew years to be allowed to paint "Trans World Airlines" on their aircraft...
Anyway, if this all indeed has become reality then KLM made up its' mind rather late in the day to put it mildly...

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
The board of Aviodrome/DDA consists out of KL people, they run the show these days.
And if the board says no.......... which they did......
It has nothing to do with money, like I said that is all sorted.
It can't be technical either as the Connie runs like a dream and both US crew members where very happy although there is always some tinkering to do with these grand old ladies.
So far the real reason has not been given, to us technicians anyway.
Well other then "we don't want it" that is.
Till last week that "we don't want it" was "good, carry on" which we did.

As you will have read by now this is not because of two bl@@dy spark plugs...Humphrey Redskin wrote:He Willem,

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
ha ha no of course not, although we do need a couple of new ones but that is no problem.
We really don't know what the problem is, nobody told us.
That is the problem we currently have, we don't know what to do anymore.
Other then that the public says "wait a minute" we do like to see the Connie flying.
Flood their mailboxes with mail, as long as it stays friendly it might help our cause.
NO is what we have, YES is what we might get so what is there to loose.

Which board said NO? the Aviodrome/DDA one, Mr. Hartman or Paris?(KLM mother). Would be interesting to know which mailbox we have to overflood.Aviopic wrote:The board of Aviodrome/DDA consists out of KL people, they run the show these days.

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
There is just one thing that I wonder;
How come the Conny is facing grounding due to lack of fundings (eventually this is the main problem) and the Aviodrome is still actively purchasing a scrappy DC8 in the UK??
Offcourse it's easy to blaim AF/KLM but they just support fundings (but if they are in the situation to cut-back about 5000 employees; how can the explain the support of an Constelation?, this is the first thing to go to save money.. You have to be reasonable and respect this action, how hard this is for the Aviodrome) but if the fundings are arranged to the most needed cases the problem would have some extra funding.
For now it would be best to concentrate on the Conny and see what is possible; it is gonna be tough but not impossible..
Adios,
Hurricane

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
Gents (and ladies, if here), please see this topic for the opinion part.
A fact is, like Willem explained, that KLM pulls the strings of the Aviodrome/DDA merged organisation. This means that eventually the KLM board is responsible for what is going on. It is as simple as that.
If the KLM board is not (yet) aware of what is happening, they may not have had time for it yet or information has been withheld from them. The first option is the most likely one, obviously.
If we, the public, can make KLM aware of this issue, both the massive undertaking by volunteers regarding the Connie and the name of KLM as a company that is proud of its long history might still be saved.
Erik

Re: eerste vlucht connie aviodrome N749NL
