VIENNA, June 23, 2009 (AFP) - Austria's air force intercepted a Frenchmilitary plane after it entered Austrian airspace without permission, thedefence ministry said Tuesday.
The French plane, en route to Paris from Romania late Monday, was intercepted between Radkersburg and Salzburg by two Austrian air force Saab105 jets, the ministry said in a statement. The ministry categorised the incident as "Alpha priority", which refers to when a plane enters Austrian airspace without the necessary flyover permission or if an aircraft loses radio contact while in Austrian airspace. All military aircraft require special authorisation to fly over Austria.


This afternoon, french MOD denied this information about "a french military aircraft"...

The Saab 105s have done a good job: They had interceped the intruder.....and you don't forget that Austrian have got the EF-2000 Typhoon, the best fighter in Europe.

Yep.... And that's exactly why they send out the Saab 105s - the Eurofighter consortium will be so chuffed to read their "best fighter in Europe" has not been used for a Quick Reaction Alert, but in stead a 40 year old armed trainer is used. LOL

Well, I do recall I saw one Phantom beating two Typhoons in a dogfight (and reading an interview with a RAF Typhoon pilot stating the Eurofighter doesn't have a single chance if it has to fight a F-16).

Going OT here I know, but I believe it’s still very much down to the pilot and knowledge of the aircraft involved. I remember in the early 80's Danish F-16 pilots getting quite frustrated by numerous losses to RAF Lightning’s during a squadron exchange. Also remember reading a few years back that German F-4s made life very difficult for F-15s during Red Flag (although not really dogfighting).

I would be really surprised if a fully operational Typhoon , flown by an average but operational Typhoon pilot, wouldn't be able to knock the beejezus out of any F-16 any time...

Hi everybody!It's unquestionable that the Typhoon is better than F-16 and similar fighter. And you don't forget that every dogfight is a single case! A my friend, Amx's pilot with +2000hours on jet, have killed a Typhoon in dogfight. But this case don't mean that the Amx is always better than Typhoon!
