Because there are no IATA codes for smaller airports and non-civil airports. Besides, I think some IATA codes are even less obvious than the ICAO codes. Especially at EHAM, oh.......Schiphol I mean, are a lot of "spotters" from age 21 or less, who have 25 years of experience
in aviation.No please, keep both feet on the ground and use full names instead of ICAO codes.

In my experience it's the older ones.from age 21 or less,
Usually they are a bit bold, slightly to much overweight. They dress so you can see they have never had a girlfriend en and still live with their mom. And usually carry a camera with (atleast) a 500mm lens and a scanner which is so powerfull it can pick up the air traffic at Kandahar Airport even when you are standing at Schiphol.
Seen them around lately?
Now back to topic.
