VWR Berlin/Finow Museum (small trip down memory lane..)

Post by Polecat »

spent a couple of days in the Berlin area. Didn't do much spotting, just a few pieces of old metal..

This C-47 on top of the Tech Museum was a nice surprise for me, turned out I shot this one at twente years ago on its transit flight from the UK as N951CA.. will try to scan the slides of that visit some day..

Than we did a short hop north, so why not visit Finow for the first time since 1992...
Mig-21 PFM, brings back many good NVA memories...

Good old "An-dwa" in nice colours..

new addition tot the collection according to a local, Su-22 741..

Next wasthis "ouwe bekende"... Boy, was this preserved Yak-28R a 'discovery' back in 1990!!

Came across this one on the Kurfürstendamm, checked it out as good as possible, and it looked as if it is a "genuine article"... any clues on where it might originate from?? (not the best shot, taken with compact camera)

When I saw this thing back in '04, I was convinced it was fake. I rated it too small for being a Dak wing, which is what it ought to stand for. (pointing to the Berlin Airlift), although the story of Berlin in the building direct left off the pic, was quite an interesting attraction (including a tour to a nuclear shelter), allthough very little aviation, just a little corner about the airlift.

not too sure myself either, it might not be a C-47 outer wing at all. Maybe a beech 18 or so? However, the leading-edge light looked very real to me, as did the aileron connections....

Certainly not a Dakota wing, just compare it to the Dakota picture above. Especially the ailerons look very different to me.
