that one is looking better Jeroen ! you also can play a bit with levels as well. The coloured layer on this one is
less than at your other scans ! so yes it is in improvement
you can also a play a bit with saturation and unsharpmask.

Wow... so the 'secret' is more saturation and even more sharpening... without getting pics which are too much overdone as there is a thin line between sharp and oversharpened and of course saturated and oversaturated

Dino, you may want to view your photos on different monitors. Sometimes they do tend to be oversharpened, the second version of Jeroen's Su-25 you show there is very much so.

Although I still haven't mastered the art of Kodachrome slide-scanning I use the following software in my workflow:
- scanning in Silverfast
- output TIFF to Apple Aperture 2 where I use the plug in Nik Dfine for noise reduction and Nik Sharpener for sharpening
- the rest of the process is also in Apple Aperture 2

Anyone a different (i.e. better or handier) workflow who is willing to share it with me, with us???

Hi Jeroen,

I can't comment on the software you use, as I am not on an Apple.
However, I could tell you do de-noising. In general, I like that as well, however, it frequently turns grass and shrub in to something like "snert" (peas soup for all you non-Dutch) if you use it too much. It shows here and there in your images. You may want to play with that a bit more.
Otherwise, good work!

Agree with above. Anti-grain/noise has to be handled very carefully. That way you won't have to compensate with sharpening that much either. Bit of a blue cast, I think. Something wrong with the shadows, too. Used AACO in Silverfast?

By the way for the followers of this thread who are not familiar with Silverfast AACO:
"... SilverFast's AACO is an excellent tool for the correction of dark, high-contrast areas of the image while preserving the details in the highlights. It operates automatically when selected but can also be manually manipulated. The intensity and the complexity of the shadows, which are to be lightened, can be adjusted without affecting the highlights of the image..."

Honestly, I don't know. I just happened to be testing SilverFast this week, and this feature is about the only one I did not get useful results with. Most of the other tools I like after getting used to the interface. The effect I got, and also see in your pics, is similar to overcorrecting with curves.
Let me take the opportunity to re-assure you the amount of detail and dynamic range of your scans is definitely OK.

No, it's a long and hard way, significantly more difficult than processing digital originals from modern cameras, but we're glad to be of help
