Anyone able to find out whether http://twitter.com/RIAT_News" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is somehow more or less connected to or well informed by the official RIAT organisation?

If suitable transport is found, RAAF F-111 Aardvarks may complete a European Tour in 2010. Possible Varks at RIAT 2010?!

I would not pay too much attention to this, as RIAT's twitter is twitter.com/AIRTATTOO (of course, it would be very nice if it realy happens though)

The F-111 is to be retired from the RAAF at the end of the year and only a handful is thought to be left airworthy. It is hoped that two aircraft will undertake a European tour this summer, but lack of strategic transport may defeat the plan.

Where is the spirit of just wait and see... IMHO something is going to happen, or else this rumour would have faded by now...

we stay in contact with Phil Persons, SqdLdr of 6th Squadron at Amberley and F-111 display-pilot (we came to know at LIMA last year).
I asked him (via mail), if the F-111 will come to RIAT, here the answer:

There will be no trips to Europe/RIAT, there is one to the US in Feb/Mar but that is for trials work.
Its looking likely that the Singapore Airshow in Feb will be the last international display.


Hopefully they change their minds ...

Perhaps they say nothing just for being cautious (read: not speaking the entire truth)... but look at the following scenario:

For example... They say (yet) they come, but half way through the aircraft breaks down.... Everyone sad faces and the RAAF will have another issue to deal with...

If they don't say (yet) that they will come... but surprise surprise... they appear anyway... Everyone happy and RAAF has done a great thing....

Let me put it in "jip en janneke taal" then...

not everything has to be made public yet (i like to be surprised once in a while... who doesn't)... perhaps the pilots have a gag-order about this subject... because it would realy cause a big hype for the airshows in europe (RIAT IS THEN SOLD OUT IN NO TIME IS MY SECOND GUESS)... If they say they won't come and they actually show up it's quite like icing on the cake... it just makes it better... but if they say they won't come and they don't show up... no one feels bad...

Not necessary. Mind how long hoaxes about flying Concordes (can) survive. Someone puts this in a wishlist on the net, another reading it doesn't realise that it is a wish, etc. and three spotterforums after this it is stated as a down and dusted confirmed participant.

P.S. IMO Hikotai's post TG quoted might be one of the most reliable sources in this ongoing saga. Do with this what you want, or don't want.
