Hyeres - 100 years Aeronavale - 13 june 2010
Hi all,
As I'm going the this airshow in June I was searching the internet for some information about this show.
Here is something I found on the internet, which is translated by Google.
--------------------------------------
Approximately 120 aircraft in the air and several aircraft carriers in the harbor ... On 13 June, at Hyeres, near Toulon, the hundredth anniversary of naval aviation will be a flypast large. This event, culminating in ceremonies marking the centennial of aviation board, will see the participation of many countries, who will welcome a component of the Navy whose reputation is well established. Several carriers are expected (the remaining course subject to operational requirements). Thus, in addition to Charles de Gaulle, the United States should send the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, while Great Britain would be present with HMS Ark Royal and Spain with the Principe de Asturias. Italy, which could be there with Cavour or Garibaldi, has not yet confirmed his presence. However, the arrival of the aircraft carrier Brazil Sao Paulo (ex-Foch French), one time hoped would no longer be valid.
--------------------------------------
So this looks like a winner!!
If you have more information about this airshow, let us know!
Best regards, Rob

Re: Hyeres - 100 years Aeronavale - 13 june 2010
I know it's probably a bit early yet but does any one know if the aircraft taking part in the flypast will operate from Hyeres or will they fly in from other bases? A 120 aircraft flypast on its own is quite boring, it would be much more interesting if they departed from and recovered to Hyeres.
As well as that, what runway do they use at Hyeres for air shows... the North West-South East runway or the North East-South West runway?
Are the public on the South or South West side of the air base?

My guess for the public is because of the tarmacs being mostly at the south, it's likely to be situated there.
Also, is saturday a rehearsal day?
Greetings!

If anyone knows. Are the aircraftcarriers in the harbour open for public these days? Thanks.

Re: Hyeres - 100 years Aeronavale - 13 june 2010
Well if the static would be on the navy aprons in the south-west side, and the civil terminal is open that day (Transavia has been in touch with Toulon airport and it seems they can receive their scheduled flight from Rotterdam in the afternoon), there is not much space left to park all the demo-teams and aircraft for the flyby's. Looking at previous show-reports from here, the quantity has never been anywhere near a 100 so an operating base in the area would seem a solution (parhaps Cuers or Nimes, being other BANs nearby, but Marignane and Istres are possible as well I guess). Alternatively, they launch straight from the carriers in the bay! (Riiiiiiiiiiight....)
Look like rwy 05/23 is usually in use. Perhaps the Cessna's and helicopters use the other, shorter runway as well.
Good luck!

Your post is exactly the lines im thinking on.
Maybe the helos operate from Hyeres.
The thought of them using Cuers, id like that but i dont think so because the base looks so run down etc

Maybe the large demo teams will use Salon de Provence (home of the best demoteam in the world!) That will leave plenty of space at Hyeres for the smaller participants and static. And will make them avoid the Marseille traffic!

Re: Hyeres - 100 years Aeronavale - 13 june 2010
Salon is indeed a good option too, plenty of space nowadays. Would be nice, excellent base to shoot outside, if they use the right rwy.
I was thinking Nimes since it is an Aeronavale base, perhaps easier for the organisation? Cuers I agree, unlikely, doesn't even have a large proper flightline it seems. Istres on the other hand is space-wise the most logical choice. And they are used to handling teams and foreign aircraft since they have their own show the weekend before!
PS I didn't know the Reds moved to Salon, that's odd!

ATL2 No. 17 has received a special c/s to celebrate the 100 years naval aviation and will be most certainly present at Hyères.
