Good afternoon,
Sir William Roberts started his collection at Shoreham in 1970 and moved to Strathallan airfield near Auchterarder in Scotland in 1971. This collection grew steadily until the aircraft were sold in the early eighties.
I visited the museum twice and here are some images (negative scans) from my first visit in 1976 (July 27th). I hope you like them.
1. De Havilland DH89A Dragon Rapide 4R-AAI
2. Grumman TBM-3W Avenger 045V, ex Kon. Marine
3. Lockheed 414 Hudson IV A16-199
4. De Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth DF155
5. General Aircraft GAL-42 Cygnet G-AGBN
6. North American Harvard III G-AZJD
7. Avro 683 Lancaster MK.10 G-BCOH
8. Miles M.14A Magister R1914
9. Avro 696 Shackleton T.4 (MR.1) VP293
10. De Havilland DH106 Comet 2R XK655
Kind regards,
Peter

Good evening,Arjan wrote: A Dutch Avenger? What happened to this bird?
Its US Navy serial number was 85650. In September 1953 it entered the Dutch Navy serivce, first as 16-102 and later 045V, and stayed till at least 1960. It went to the Anthony Fokker school, the Dutch Aviation Museum (Aviodome?) and later to the Strathallan collection (in May 1976). It was registered as G-BTBM in May 1977 while in the Strathallan collection. I saw it during my second visit in 1979, still as 045V. When the collection was broken up, it went briefly to Aces High at Fairoaks airport in 1985 (from June 7th till July 22nd) and was then transferred to the USA. It was restored into flying condition, registered N62BD and later N452HA and is still current.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Peter

That certainly helps a lot. Seen this aircraft in the States. Never knew it used to be a former Dutch Navy Avenger. Cool! Thanks for the info!

Its not going to happen Patrick (although it would have been great to park it next to our Mig or Mi-8)stipjes wrote:wow, what a pic of the dutch Avenger, never knew this one was here.
