Hi Guys,

I'm going to Wittmund tomorrow, can anyone tell me where I can park my car in order to get access to the mound at the eastern end of the runway?

The Scramble guide for Spot 3 (the mound) says to drive up to the end of a road called Wehler Weg and park in the meadow. I did that today but it looks more like a field than a meadow, is it ok to park in the field or will the farmer drive over my car with his tractor?

Please never park your car in the field! I was there one week ago and we parked our car at the end of the dirt track
at the right side, just before the so-called meadow. No problem at all. One farmer was busy on the land and we were waving at him and he responded in a friendly way.

So I presume it was no problem to go there and we should keep it that way. 8)

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid to park in the field, that's why I asked after checking the area out today.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same road...

As you get to the end of the road you can see the mound directly ahead? I want to double check as there are a few small roads that lead towards the base from the south.

I'm driving a Fiat Panda hire car, it's a small car yet it still took up a good chunk of space even when parked up on the verge.

At the end of this dirt track you have to look slightly right. This hill is a very good point to see 'everything'. To park a Fiat Panda at the dirt track will be no problem or you have to park this tiny vehicle at the middle of it... :mrgreen:

Thanks again, the mound is indeed slightly to the right. If you say you had no trouble parking there then I'll park there too.

By the way, did you have any problems with base security on the mound?

We didn't saw any base security at all for the whole day!

That is right. The 3788 is used for BDR.

if you stay away about 2 meters from the fence (even with stairs), you won't have troubles with base security. was told to me (by security)

A-4N 2 flying, + 3 on flightline

Today an extra Mirage 2000 showed up.

336/ 116-BI

It came in just before the landing of the other four mirages, how came back from de mission.

All German F4's are grounded because of an ejection seat problem (also German Tornado's are grounded for the same problem).
Each aircraft has to be checked first before it is allowed to fly again.
First QRA aircraft, then local aircraft and then those abroad.
So the aircraft at Leeuwarden will be the last to be checked, because you need specialized technicians for this kind of work.
