Japan Tour 2010

from 3rd until 22nd of April (small extension because of the volcano clouds) we went with a group of 11 aviation photographers on a tour to Japan. The guys from 4Aviation lead us to wonderful spots around the airbases in Japan and we captured wonderful moments. We are all busy editing our immense number of shots but here are already a few highlights and I am sure many more will follow. Enjoy!

One of the fellow travellers from last year and me decide to go back during the same time frame, although on a slightly different itinerary. We nevertheless met a couple of times.
Below a selection of what we saw on our destinations not covered by 4Aviation.
Maurice, the farmer's enclosure can now be used by anyone. Just dial the phone number on the sign with Japanese text near the entrance (make sure to bring a quad band or UMTS phone, anything else will not work in Japan) and someone will let you in for 1000 JPY.

Maurice, the farmer's enclosure can now be used by anyone. Just dial the phone number on the sign with Japanese text near the entrance (make sure to bring a quad band or UMTS phone, anything else will not work in Japan) and someone will let you in for 1000 JPY.

This is not entirely correct. The rate is 2000 JPY per individual + 500 JPY for a car (also quoted on the sign). The lady, who's phone number is on the sign will not open the gate (there is a lock, she holds the key) to all. Generally, you'll need a Japanese contact to gain access.

One of my favorites in Japan, the gunfighter-turned-photographer at Hyakuri. The bright concrete of the runway illuminates the jet´s belly.

The double nuts are the birds of the squadron commanders, not the personal bird of the commander air group. Would be strange though if he has two!

You are confused with modexes ending in 01. These are the so called skipper birds assigned to the squadron commanders. The CAG even has more than two nominally assigned, as many as there are squadrons within the wing. If you want me, I can dig out some more of CVW-5. Glad you like the piccies though!
