Overall, I thought the show was pretty good. Biggest complaints I have is that all Slovak AF types should have flown during the show even if it was only for the opening flypast, the Mig-29 should have operated from the Piestany, a number of Mi-8/17's were seen taking off and then returning without even do a fly-by when there was nothing flying, the Mig-29 formation should've been lower and finally the parking of the static aircraft was a joke. The star item of the static was the Ukranian AN-26 but it was parked so far up the line that the bariers stopped people 50 metres away from it.
The TU-154's 1st pass on Saturday was immense!! I hope somebody has it on youtube.
Neil.

Re: 4. National Air Days, Piestany, Slovakia, 29. - 30.5. 2010
I got some informations (from slovak forum) why some aircrafts didnt show up at Piestany:
Tornado: "Because of opperational and technical demands due to multiple redeployments we were not able to send the promised jet to your Airshow. We are deeply sorry for not participating on such short notice."
E-3 AWACS: "Aircraft starts flying again
Geilenkirchen After the successful repair of the door of the nose landing gear mechanism and successful ground test, the first E-3 AWACS is expected to fly today afternoon, Thursday 6 May.
On 29 April corrosion on one aircraft was detected. For flight safety reasons the E-3A fleet stopped flying operations. After rectifying the problems, the fleet will start operating again.
As announced, the repair process is still ongoing and we expect more AWACS flying as soon as the affected parts get repaired or replaced."
I suppose airworthy E-3 was needed elsewhere
Spitfire (announced on press conference, not published): first confirmed one didnt come due to problems with pilot, and second was not airworthy.
Static display: The distance between the crowdline and aicrafts was so big because reserve aircrafts of demo teams were parked there, so in case they are needed to fly a display, the organisers could get them from static faster.

Those c/n's in italics were looked up - the reminder was read from pictures.
We left at 14:30, before some intense rain.
It was a nice show which is emphasizing on the Slovakian Air Force - and that's what you get.
The southern flightline can be done in the morning from the parking places, that static was parked very well.
To move aircraft, they were parked well away from the fence - making good pictures easy, even without a wide-angle lens.
You are very close to the runway which is great for pictures.
As said before, pictures are only possible until 13:00, then you're facing against the sun (if there is any...).
But with some walking you can take pictures opposite the airfield.
Any comments/additions/corrections are welcome.
Greetings Cujo
EDIT: I just saw that I still had the old slovakian unit designations from years ago.
1.SLK is nowadays ZLK, 2.VrK (which was wrong in itsself, it was 3.Vrk) is VLK now - see http://www.scramble.nl/sk.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Re: 4. National Air Days, Piestany, Slovakia, 29. - 30.5. 2010
That was not a "dogfight", it was display of "combat flying" of two MiG-29 (leader+wingman)
Re: 4. National Air Days, Piestany, Slovakia, 29. - 30.5. 2010
aaahh, OK - that was the reason why I did in brackets.Screenes wrote:That was not a "dogfight", it was display of "combat flying" of two MiG-29 (leader+wingman)
And I was wondering, why one followed the other... .
However, they flew in Kuchyna much more aggressiv than in Piestany - but there the weather was better.
And if you have anything to do with the show - really great one and well done .
I visited the third time and I was never disappointed (OK, the ukrainian Mi-24 would have been nice but a talk to the An-26 crew revealed that the Hind was cancelled last second, so really out of your hands).
My only complain is, that next time you should cut the grass to the runway along the whole public area - and not only in the VIP area.
Greetings Cujo
