Azores July 2010 Photoreport. (LPHR/LPPD/LPLA)
Hello All!
This summer I've spent my vacations in the Azores. It was not really a spotting trip, but I've found some time to take a few shots out there.
There were also quite some flights planned, here is the schedule.
1. OR733 from Amsterdam to Ponto Delgada (with a stopover at Terceira).
2. SP440 from Ponto Delgada to Horta.
3. SP631 from Horta to Terceira.
4. OR734 from Terceira to Amsterdam (with a stopover at Ponto Delgada).
Here are the shots I would like to share with you. I hope you'll like them!
Let's kick off with some wingviews of the first flight:
02-07-2010
#1. A few minutes after departure from Amsterdam, a very nice setting of clouds!
#2. Cruising over the Atlantic ocean. This is ArkeFly B737-800 PH-TFB.
#3. After the stopover back in the air. View of Terceira Island!
10-07-2010
On the last day at the Island of Saõ Miguel, I've spent a few hours along the runway at Ponto Delgada.
#4. Very nice colored SATA International bird coming in!
#5. The new Q400 NG of SATA Air Açores, only a few months old!
#6. Heavy time! Very nice A310 coming in.
#7. SATA A320 back on the runway and rolling for departure.
#9. And blasting off the runway!
#10. Prop vortex !
11.07.2010
Today the flight to Horta in a brand new Dash8-Q400 CS-TRF!
#11. Many thanks to the people of the fuelling! They were a bit late with filling the dash which I was going to fly with, so we had to wait in the bus till they were ready. And guess what a nice surprise came in in the morning light!
#12.
#13. Flying past mount Pico!
#14. Many thanks to the very nice crew for making this picture possible!
#15. I love the paint !
13.07.10
#16. After I had visited the vulcano at Faial and drove past the airport, I saw this bird backtracking so I made quick stop.
14.07.10
#17. After three very nice days on Faial I moved on to the last Island, Terceira. Here we have again a Dash 8-Q400 CS-TRE.
Here the Island of Pico can be seen.
#18. Flying over Saõ Jorge.
#19. Here I want to thank the very nice crew who made this flight a really great experience! One if the best flights I had so far!
#20. Thanks a lot again to the very nice crew for making this picture possible!
21-07-2010
#21. Just a few photos from Lajes. Unfortunately there wasn't much military traffic.
#22. I could nearly hear the captain as he was taxiing to here. He was already taxiing to the apron near the terminal, but then I guess they told him to turn around and go to the parking at the other side of the runway. I think he was not very pleased about this!
#23. Emergency Landing! Engine failure No. 2. Everything worked out okay.
24-07-2010
#24. Already the return flight again! This is ArkeFly (Miami Air) B737-800 N739MA.
#25. Turning over the Atlantic!
#26. A nice lake in Spain!
#27. And last but not least, a nice flight deck! Many thanks to the crew again!
This was it! I hope you enjoyed them!
I can say I'm looking back on a very nice time there.
Comments are welcome!
Kind Regards,
Olmo Müller

Thanks! Yes, I took them from a viewing deck! I was also trying to find another nice spotting location, but it's difficult to find a good one, as the airport is surrounded by high fences of the military base. I was glad the TAP A330 came in from that side, so I was able to take a quite nice shot of that one .MAS017 wrote:Not many pictures from Acores, so really appreciate sharing these fine shots with us here !!!

Only a few remain visible .... Photobucket problem?

Re: Azores July 2010 Photoreport. (LPHR/LPPD/LPLA)
There is a perimeter road on most of the southern side, along the runway. On some places if you stay a little away from the fence you can stand on higher ground and take pictures over the fence. However, some steps are always handy...757Flyer wrote:Thanks! Yes, I took them from a viewing deck! Did you also go whale spotting? That really is the best thing about the Azores!
