Great pictures Kees,
from what place you took your shots?
Was it the public road at the westside of the field, did you have some troubles with the police....

Hi Rene
It was on the west side of the field. Allong the public road the is a small path to a crash gate. There you can make pictures with 200mm. Don't be to close to the fence. Keep a low profile. There is a security car driving allong the field.
Only 1 ore 2 were fying in the morning. You can see from the crashgate if they are outside on the flightline. You have to be lucky, over the years (4) I have now 5 different mig's. 108, 122, 164, 165, 166.
Succes

Hi Rene
It is also a civil airfield. Charters are comming in all day. Not this year but I saw 2 PC-9M's and 1 Mi 171 in those 4 years.
I'm very happy with the Mig's!

Hi Kees,
Nice shots, your are lucky indeed. I was there two years ago in September also for holiday. Unfortunately no Migs for me at Pula. We landed in darkness with our Transavia B737 from Rimini but at the mil-site no aircraft were seen (hangars closed of course). During departure the same so, indeed your are lucky to see military activity here!
Regards,
Maurits

Hello Maurits,
It took me 4 years and several visits to get half of the Mig fleet of the Croatia AF. They are worth it.

Hello,
I was on Pula on a Wednesday early in September. The MiG-21's where flying only in the morning. One (115) from 08.00 till 08.30 and two (166 & 115) from 09.45 till 10.30. Conditions to photograph are quite well! I missed the first wave to photograph because I was checking the crash gate to see the military platform from outside the field.
The spot marked with 2 in the Scramble Airfield guide (online) is the best possible place to make pictures in the landing as can be seen below.
Greeeetz,
Frans

The 108 and the 120 crashed (both MiG-21bis). This twin accident on the 23rd reduced the Mig-21 fleet from 12 to 10:
MiG-21bis: 110, 115, 116, 117, 121 & 122
MiG-21UM: 164, 165, 166 & 167
Here the 115, I saw on Pula, september 1st, 2010:

The MiGs are fantastic indeed but just to manage your expectations. I spent some days in Pula this week and there were no flying activities at all from monday through thursday!USAFE wrote:Very nice pics!

Ryanair stops it service to Pula at the end of next week by the way. They will probably resume it when the next holiday season starts in April or so.
Greetings, Paul

Re: Mig 21's at Pula AB Croatia
I was in Pula shortly after the 21´s had crashed and according to the handler at the airport they had been grounded.
I did see 4 Mig-21´s parked outside the hangars at night in Zagreb just one day earlier though!
