Yelahanka India 9-11 February 2011
Hi all,
I intend to visit the airshow at Yelahanka during February 2011.
Now the website states that the show is from Wednesday 9th until Sunday 13th of February. Question: are all days open for the general public? And which days would be best for visiting (obviously I would prefer weekdays).
Thanks in advance for your help,
Erik

Re: Question about Yelahanka India 2011
Had to use Google to actually find out you mean "Aero-India 2011"...
Don't have any tips for you I'm afraid, but according to
http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... -130j.html
the first Indian Air Force C-130J will be officially presented to the public at Aero India 2011.

Assuming you are still subscribing; Scramble 358 - Page 101 to 103 gives you all the answers. Public days are Saturday and Sunday.

Stefan

Better try Scramble 358 or even 334.
I think the best part is the first day, as you will also have a few transports early in the morning and just before sunset. The day before the first day will have the rehearsel fly-by (at 13.00hrs?) which will be repeated next day with maybe some other fighters (but with the same timings).
With so many Local Big Guys around most (all?) of the flying will be Indian, and the next day might see more foreign demonstrations.
Try to get a trade-day pass or better, so you check out the Dakota behind the hangers. As it's behind a wall, check out the location/viewing point before going.

What do you guys suppose will fly? I would love to see a Tu-142, Il-38 and Mig-27. Any chance of any of those making an appearance?

Re: Question about Yelahanka India 2011
A TU-142 was in the opening flypast in 2007,so it is possible one(and/or an IL-38) could appear.

Indeed, both Tu-142 and IL-38 were in the flypast in 2007. But that was for the 75th anniversary of the IAF and two years later the flypast was less impressive.Le Addeur noir wrote:A TU-142 was in the opening flypast in 2007,so it is possible one(and/or an IL-38) could appear.

India to showcase attack copter
Prashanth G N, TNN, Jan 20, 2011, 04.15am IST
BANGALORE: India's first indigenous attack helicopter, the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) developed by HAL and due for induction into the Indian Air Force by 2012-13, will make its first flight during Aero India from February 9 to 13.
Its first test flight was in March last year.
The second and third flights were in April and May 2010 and as of now, over 20 test flights have checked various parameters.
These have paved the way for testing with weapons.
While the first prototype could fly at the air show, the second prototype, which will be weaponized, is expected to be unveiled too.
Two more prototypes are under construction. HAL commenced work on the LCH in 2006.
The copter is an attack variant of the HAL Dhruv, which has been inducted into the armed forces.
The copter was designed using a successful and proven helicopter as the base platform.
HAL has tentative orders to deliver 65 LCHs to the IAF and over 100 to the Army.

Re: Yelahanka India 9-11 February 2011
If history repeats ifself the flypast should start around 10 am on Wednesday only. Various Mi-8 will probably take off right in front of you carrying the ensign (flag). They will be the first aircraft in the parade. This is based on what I remember happened 4 years ago (but that was the big anniversary year). Good luck and happy hunting.

Re: Yelahanka India 9-11 February 2011
Well yes, I had heard that this flypast is around that time 10am on the Wednesday. However, on the website it is written that the show is open for both business visitors and 'tourists' from 14:00 till 17:00 hrs...
So how to enter around 9 am - bribe the guards?!
