Post by Wim »

On Thursday 17 February we went to Reims.

It promised to be a very sunny day, so we went to Reims. About 20km before we reached Reims, the sky filled with low clouds unfortunatly, which stayed for the whole day... Luckely there was some flying activity. This is what we saw between 9h45 and 14h15:

Mirage F-1CT 278/112-SG (Take off: 10h26/Landing: 12h50)
Mirage F-1CR 661/112-NK (Take off: 10h26/Landing: 12h54)
Mirage F-1B 518/112-SR (Take off: 10h31/Landing: 11h19) (Take off:12h12 / Landing: 13h07) in Special colours
Mirage F-1CR 615/118-MZ (Take off: 10h31/Landing: 11h19) (Take off:12h12 / Landing: 13h07)
Mirage F-1B 510/112-SL (Take off: 11h34/Landing: 12h45)
Mirage F-1CR 638/112-CD (Take off: 11h34/Landing: 13h27)

When we arrived there was one F-1CR/CT taking off, but we could not identify this one. We didn't saw it returning before 14h15.

A local spotter told us the following information:

Flying activity is still very good on Monday and Tuesday with between 20 and 30 flights a day with 8-10 different aircraft. Wednessdays are sometimes good, sometimes not. Thursday they do nightflying with between 20 and 30 flights a day spread over the whole day offcourse, Friday, no flying activity anymore.

I hope this helps

Best regards Rob.

On their way for a 'mountain flying' exercise, according to an Apache pilot on Twitter.

Note that onboard one of this six British gunships was HRH Prince William of Wales, this was told by the Gendarmerie Nationale (French Police).
The remark of one of the french spotters was, so we can go to England now, because Kate must be alone.....

This rather sad information will be most interesing for who is planning to go to BA112 Reims before this base will be closed;

- mid april the Mirages F1B will leave the base.
- end june all the remaning Mirages F1CR and F1CT will leave for ever
- after that the soon closure off BA112 Reims

Probably half of the Mirages will go in storage and the rest will move to BA118 Mont-de-Marsan

I thought Prince William was a Sea King pilot...doing SAR.
If so, which of the six Apaches was he flying?
