Köthen is a former VVS airfield in Eastern Germany and 85 IAP was one of the first units to be withdrawn. I have never seen many pics from this airfield.
However, it was the very first Russian military air base that I ever visited, it was in March 1991. Beautiful weather and lot's of MiG's parked very close to the fence (it was a non-flying day). Full with adrenaline we had to shoot some pictures...
See the Russian groundcrew around this MiG-23UB...they noticed us but never said a thing while we approached through the open field...:

The unit flew a mix of MiG-29 Fulcrum-A and -C models. These are two of the C models that were also parked close to the fence (well fence - I do not see any wire between the posts lol):

After this the destination was Werneuchen whooooo!
If anyone else has some pictured from this airfield I would be very much interested to see those shots...?
Cheers,
Erik

Nice hots! Makes me remember of the "good old days"
Do you know that, by the time, Fulcrum-equipped regiments had not two-sticks enough, so that they had to keep MiG-23UB on line?

And East Germany LSK/LV solved the problem by fitting two rails at the entry
of their HAS in order to precisely guide their Fulcrums...
I like to talk with people "who knows"
