On the 12th June CVW-5 deployed on her annual summer deployment.

The 2 C-2A embarked on this date with VRC-30 Det 5 were 162150 NF-20 and 162176 NF-21.

At some point between the 12th June and 5th August,1 and probably both of these Greyhounds have been replaced.Modex 22 of Det 5 has been noted in Bangkok-Don Muang on the 5th August. The Bu number is still unconfirmed. It appeared to be 162153,but this airplane has been written-off.

The TDY transport airplanes from here were replaced last weekend, when C-9B 161530,C-40A 165831 and C-130T 165349 were noted heading east with US based CNV callsigns.

Excellent.

Slightly off-topic,but the next carrier heading for this part of the world, the USS John C Stennis has C-2A Password 32 on board, this was on SBS on the 6th in the HNL area.

The local NALO det here has C-40A 165829 from VR-58,which headed west from Wake Island last week.

Hi all, I will be in the Tokyo area in the near future. And want to go to Atsugi.
Does anyone has tips on spotting there. And has someone info about when CAW5 is in the house.

Thank you in advance.

Spotting/photography on either end of the ruway is easy and pretty self-explanatory once you get there.

No clues on when CAW5 is at home.

CVW5 is currently deployed. The USS George Washington is currently on a port visit in Thailand.A log for this will be posted shortly.

Spotting outside at RJTA is relativly easy at both ends, the r/w 19 end is where most enthusiasts gather on the other side of the railway line that runs across the final approach for this runway.

The base is still worth visiting with CVW5 being absent(not sure when they will return, they departed on 12th June,so some point in the fall looks likely for their return).

The JMSDF have around 20 P-3C and other types there.
