Zeltweg Airpower 11
Some images from me from what must be Europe's most photogenic venue for an airshow; Zeltweg in Austria. Marred to some extent by the hard landing by two parachutists on the Friday, the much feared storks were nowhere to be seen. Anyway, on with the show.
Hans.

Great photos, thanks! I especially like the one with the Black Hawks. Did you have a spotter pass, or did you take the pics from the crowd?
BTW, one stork did show up on Saturday, interrupting Patrouille Suisse's program.

I did have a spotter's pass. I wasn't aware of the stork during the Patrouille Suisse demo however.
About the Black Hawks; they were part of a helicopter role demo with more choppers than today's Royal Netherlands Air Force can shake a stick at!
Hans.

Nice photos! Wonderful background. I saw the show on Friday live on the internet. What happened to the paras that came done twice the usual speed? I could see an ambulance and some firetrucks, but then the cameras avoided pointing at the crash scene.
Do you know what bird crashed into the Saudi Hawk? Wasn't that a stork?

Hi Rob.
I shall refrain from posting a picture of the actual crash or right before. I do have them however. What happened is that two chutes got entangled, causing incomplete braking and hard landings by the soldiers. The results were broken pelvis and ankles.
The birdstrike with the Saudi Hawk was a small bird of prey, a sparrowhawk IIRC.

The Austrian capability demo was my favourite part of the show. At least on Saturday - due to Friday's accident. The number of choppers alone was astonishing.Hans Rolink wrote: About the Black Hawks; they were part of a helicopter role demo with more choppers than today's Royal Netherlands Air Force can shake a stick at!

I was there on friday, unfortunately the chopper demo was cancelced half way the show due to the accident.
But I made a few pictures anyway of the highlight of the Air Power 2011! Also the Hind demo was a highlight for me.

Hi Alex,
love your pics . You made them with your 100-400?
As I was there also, my pics did not look that good and sharp as yours .
Any special editing done by you? or could it be the well known difference between the quality of the 100-400.
grtz,
Gerben

@Iwan, many thanks for your reaction
@ Gerben, Yes I made them all with my 100-400 lens
I used my famous tripod for those images!
Here are a few more choppers:

Zeltweg Airpower'11 01-07-11
Good evening all,
Made a trip to the Zeltweg airshow with Asto & Arrecoos.
A few for now....
First stop: Hohenfelds.
It take some time, but finally we found a spot in the approach of the runway...no view on the base was possible but it wasn't bad at all...
Just one chopper in two hours but it was worth the wait....
After that we're heading to Zeltweg for the arrivals the next day.
In the late afternoon we take another spot in the mountains...to read some missing numbers...
I tried to take some pictures with 800mm....
The show on Friday.
Too bad the sum left at the right moment... but in my opinion, absolutely the best demo of this year!
Regards,
John
