Make that (at least) six airworthy examples! Three weeks ago we saw 114, 243 and 36 flying (the latter is the only double seater). Two aircraft were on QRA, which later turned out to be 358 and 392 (flying at the airshow). That makes five Apart from those five, 340 was a spare aircraft during our stay. First it was parked on the flightline, later it became the QRA spare. Also, 427 (in maintenance) and 294 were seen in pretty good condition, but of course I can't say if these are or will become airworthy. We were told the MiG-21 will be retired between December 2010 and April 2011, a final date has not been set..
Hi,

Over the past 2,5 years only Bis: 114, 243, 294 and 427 and UM: 28,29 and 36 have been seen active on numerous occasions so I was very surprised to see that 340 (jul06), 358 (sep08) and 392 (mar08) have rejoined the active ones! Too bad that time is ticking away for these beauties.

Marvelous pictures!

Regards, Paul

Thanks for the round-up on the MiGs, chaps.

@ Alex: that tilted MiG fly-by is a nice touch, and the helos are very smart (LZ-CAT !).
@ Peter: thanks for those action shots, seems our tastes are quite alike.
@ Micha: wow, great!

@ Peter: Really great shots! Some of mine turned out to be very nice, too. Not bad for a photo-nitwit like me...
@ Erik: Also great shots! Have you got more from Katunitsa? Didn't go there myself...
@ Alex: What can I say? The helo-man strikes again...

Hi guys,

I see you all made some very impressive pictures! Thank you for your company during our trip, I had a great time.
Only two pictures from me for now, a tribute to the finest Pitts S2B demo I've ever seen :D :

All wonderful pictures! :respect:

Just wondering, what did the German Typhoon do? Did it do a full display or a couple of flypasts?

Besides the airshow there are also a lot of preserved aircraft at Plovdiv-Krumovo. It also houses the aviation museum and near control tower are many nice aircraft to be found. here a small selection.
