Dubai July 2012 (photo heavy)

Post by Dutchman »

Dear all,

As I joined Emirates Skycargo in July, I had to go on training for 17 days in Dubai. Because of this long time stay I sometimes had time to take some shots. As spotting is permidded in Dubai and it was summer (45c+) every day it was not a good idea to take shots outside. So I decided to take shots from my hotel. I stayed at the Premier Inn, Dubai International Airport. It's located opposite Terminal 3, next to the Emirates headquaters building. Departures and arrivals were most of the time (85%) from 30L/30R. Some airliners park their aircraft next to terminal three and taxi very close alongside terminal 3, however shots are very difficult due to obstructions, but sometimes I was able to take some reasonable shots. Quality is not the best, but maybe nice to see the variation of traffic you don't see very often. In combination with flightradar24 you could see almost all traffic. A log will be posted later

Most pictures are taken through this windows at the entry at the 4th floor, this was next to my room, which had a nice airportview.

Nice pictures, nice traffic! I stayed in exactly the same room last January hehe. Its good to shoot with a little bit of obstruction (lightpoles/fence) but still nice. The only negative is the runway is just a little too far, especially with this temps with all the heatwaves

HI Dimitri,

Love traffic in Dubai. It's a shame that most action is at night.

A small tip for your next visit. Go to the restaurant area inside the terminal building (T1). The windows
are less tainted and there is no obstruction. It's even to possible to shoot take off pics with approx
300-400mm, but this is very challenging as the aircraft rise above the terminal opposite where you
will be.

Another great place that almost nobody goes to is the neighbourhood of Al Rashidiya (metro/walk).
Good landing shots can be taken from 55B street when landing is on runway 30L. Hope this helps
you in the future. (25 13'37,23"N 55 24'06,93"E) At this point a 70-300mm lens will do.

Rgds,
Jeroen

Hi Dimitri,
As spotting is permidded in Dubai
Do you mean 'NOT' permitted by any chance?

Anyway, thanks for sharing and good luck with Emirates SkyCargo!

Best regards,

Chris
