ETAD 13-08-12

Post by giant »

On our way to holiday park short stop at spang.
We were sitting eating taking pictures in the shade at the tree line when us police came 5 guys.
3 spotters had to delete all pictures while i was still making them.
Why park or stand on the road?? :?

I was one of the victims

We where (bleep bleep) by a German spotter, who parked his car so that other could not park out of the view of the base.
And by the dutch spotter who walked with his camera to the fence.

Giant, your car was parked the most close to the base, so you are one of the persons who caused this action from the security too.
You could not help this because of the wrong parked car of the German.

My neighbour is recovering my SD card, so my photos are coming back.
Giant, can you give me the numbers of the landing F-16s when I was deleting my pics?

I heard from others that after my departure the commander of the security came and told to the spotters, that taking pictures of aircraft is not a problem without infrastructure, so his guys that forced us to delete our pictures where wrong

Unfortunate action of the German Polizei (again).
I do not know what happened in your case, but I believe in case they only see one (or a few) picture(s) of towards the base with infrastructure/buildings on it, they want you to delete all the pictures.
Normally landing shots are not really a problem.

By the way, on GoogleEarth you see a lot more infrastructure than from this 'spotters location', so what's really the problem?

Unfortunaly outside the base the german police or the Feldjäger has the last word and not the basesecurity.....

Unfortunately, that's true!
Luckily the base security has a different opinion, so maybe they should talk to each other?

Giant, thank you for the serials.

I have written a complaint to the public affairs office and they give the following reaction:
I would like to apologize for you having to delete your photos of our A-10s
and F-16s during your recent visit to the Eifel. I have forwarded your
concerns to our security forces squadron, who may be able to provide some
insight into the situation. If we receive any further information from
them, we will be sure to forward it on.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience while you were visiting our base.
So, I hope that the last seven months of A10 spotting at Spangdahlem, there are no new problems like this.
But the most important rule for everyone: No cameras at the fence, 15-20 meter distance and there are no problems!!!

Base security has no jurisdiction outside the fence... ask them to call the German Police. Really!!

Yes, but there was a scanner in my car, so I didn't like a confrontation with German polizei!

By the way, 80% of my memory card is recovered, the rest is damaged.

Was also at Spang on the 13th but on the 23 end of the runway. Didn't see any security but there was a white German audi driving along the fence... not a wise thing to do!!! Also had a scanner with me and didn't have any problems, not even at Ramstein for 3 days.

Did someone got the serials from the five A-10's? Only got the 81-0981/SP which is marked "81FS".

Correct, but the base security has the right to retain (not to arrest) people within a certain perimeter around the base.
Since we are civilians, they need to call the civilian Police to handle it.
Believe me, the Polizei is not the most desired kind of people you want to meet near a military base.
They don't seem to understand why somebody from Holland drives all the way to Germany, just to see some aircraft...that's what they told us...

On the other hand, scanners are still not allowed in Germany and that's a good reason for them to pay a visit.
For your info, we have already 'lost' our scanners during a visit at Spangdahlem...

Hi all,

It,s sad for you all that you have to delete your CF Card.
But i don.t think that is so clever from you ( and i dont wanna offent you) to write it down here on the site that you can recover the card.
Not for you, but i got the same expierence at ETAD luckely i didnt took already any pictures, but the Geman security guy told me ( i quote)
We also read scramble and see the pictures from the AMC ramp!!!!! Taking pictures from the aircraft is no problem but NO INFRACTRUTURE..
And als long as i spot ( since the middle 70's ) it was always the same ..No Infra on your pics.
If they read this as wel maybe next we lose our CF card as wel.

So maybe its better to send it next time as a private message.

How many time is told and write that you must 15mtr from the fence tacking pictures with no infra structure and scanners are forbidden in Germany

Some people must running true the fence like a chicken without a head and going home without beautiful photo‘s from the last flying A-10‘s in Europe

The A-10‘s are many years in Europe and not interest for many people now when they going back to the states everyboddy must go to make pictures from them i donn‘t get it you has years the time to photographing them

A scanner is forbidden what about a world radio or a old tandy realistic radio like we use in the 80‘s
