A-10s in Europe - the beginning of the end
Flight of four A-10s from Spang reported statebound this morning. Seems that the new fiscal year brings about this very non-welcome change for most of us ...

Re: A-10s in Europe - the beginning of the end
As far as I understand, "only" the disbandment of the 81 FS was scheduled or re-scheduled for next March. This might just be an administration affair however, with all A-10s far gone by then. In best case, they just reduce the squadron a little bit now, but regarding the disbandment of the 23 FS two years ago, the procedure was the same. Now and then a four ship departing within a few weeks, then some remaining two ships and then its over without any notice...

This was also what happened when 32nd FS was disbanded, all aircraft were gone about 5 months prior to last American was leaving.

It seems that the first flight of A-10Cs left Spangdahlem today for Lajes, as part of the withdrawal of 81 FS

The fourship included A-10Cs 81-0956, 80-0275, 81-0965 and 81-0976 (Callsigns Huron96-99). They were supported by tanker KC-135 62-3543 (Callsign CAFE46).
At Lajes Field, Azores, Warthog News contributor André Inacio from Portugal had the opportunity to catch all four "Hogs" during arrival.

Re: A-10 81TFS withdrawal Spangdahlem
Jos,
If I'm not mistaken, 2 F-16's came in as "Retro" yesterday. I assume the tanker was support
for this flight.
Regards,
Charles

Re: A-10 81TFS withdrawal Spangdahlem
The A-10's will stay at Spangdahlem for a while. According to Airforcetimes.com all aircraft scheduled to retire/relocate because of budgetcuts approved in 2010-2012, which have not been moved before September 30th, 11.59pm will stay at their respective air base. US Congress has to approve new moves and relocations, which is not expected before early next year.
