CJ wrote:You mentioned you traveled to Shanghai. You may want to consider going to Qingdao as well. The Navy museum has 21 ac, though photography is a bit difficult. If you take the ferry to Huangdao (7 RMB single) you pass by the naval base wherethe 3 remaining SH5s flying boats are parked. 300 mil should ive you a nice group picture... Can't show any as I am still analog :-)
cheers Peter
Hello Peter,

I originally planned to go to Qingdao but my last minute idea to see the arrivals spoiled it.... I just bought a ticket from Shanghai to Guangzhou tomorrow but now I regret it a bit. I could have taken a train north...
Well, thats how it is now :-(.
After saying goodbye to Zhuhai I jumped on a bus on tuesday at 7 in the morning.... The bus brought me to a trainstation (3 hours away) in Guangzhou. I arrived at 10 to find out that the train was delayed 2 hours. 24 hours later I arrive in Shanghai and went directly (with backpak) to the Aviation Enthousiast Center.
Again all nice people.

Its not a MiG.19, its not a F6 but its a ..... Dongfeng 102 the sign says. Scramble says its a J6I so I guess it is the same?
Image
I guess this one is "new" at the museum? At least its not on the Scramble China W&R list.
Image
According to the plate in front of the a/c this is the interieur of Mao's Il.14.... I guess they didn't have bumpy rides back then....
Image
There is space left so I hope more a/c will join the collection.

Today I went to the concrete Aircraft carrier west of town. I'll post pics later. This weekend I want to try my luck again in Zhuhai (should have been Qingdao maybe...) and meet some friends. Another 26 hours of travelling ahead by metro's, buses and trains.

Dong Feng was the initial name for the J6 versions and with c/n 0114 this is an early bird.

The J8A wasn' t there the last visit I know of (mar12).

Must be quite an experience the next hours!

That is why I prefer a 2 hour flight from Shanghai straight to Zhuhai-Sanzao Airport ;-)

Somehow I lost my text from this part a few days after putting it on this forum :-(. I went to the concrete boat an hour away from Shanghai at the Oriental Park. It is a nice but strange place....

In the evening I went wreck hunting in the north of town. This Q5 is preserved at a university.

Great pics Stip, it really paid to go early. During the public days, we had thick clouds and some rain.

Here is an impression on how we did during the actual show:

Fortunately, the weather in Beijing turned out to be greatduring that same week. Cold and windy, but sunny! Apart from W&R we did some general interest. Although a bit of topic, it really adds to the experience to share some of the material:

He Lucien, nice pics. Here are my last ones.
After Shanghai I decided to go back to Zhuhai again to meet some friends for a beer and for this Z8. A taxi pic was what I missed. I also hoped for some visitors but not too many turned up.

The Russian Nights were really great! They used my photo's on their facebook site..... (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater)

A nice visitor this CRJ. Three different ones came by in a week.

I close with a boring pic of a nice helicopter that I luckely saw just before leaving the show.

If you have time in 2014 and some money to spend I would definitely try to visit the airport in the days before the Air Show. There are not to many things going on but the quality is very nice. When I saw the log of the departure day yesterday that can also be an option. Most a/c leave this day (also by truck ;-)) it seems.
China itself is great. Very friendly people and easy to get around in. All was nice for me except the toilets and pictures on the menu's.
Hope you enjoyed the report.
Thanks Steef, Peter, Jaap and others for all the help and info.
Yesterday evening I arrived at Schiphol after a 12 hour delay with KLM/China Southern. We diverted to Paris at the last moment. The groundcrew in Paris said that China Southern does not have equipment to land in mist?
Anyone tips on my rights as a passenger so I can book a new trip ;-)?
