If I'm not mistaken, they're not going to Spangdahlem but to Łask AB in Poland..

Correct, as Dennis already said the tankers going to RAF Mildenhall and the F-16's to Lask.

That would require them to fly into Poland without support for another two hours or so. Strange practice.

The tanker may accompany their flight and turn around to the hall from (for example) the german border....

and otherwise: when topped up, the F-16's can fly those two hours easily. I can,t remember KC-135 with previous deployments up to the final desyination...

Refuelling above the European mainland with the accompanying tankers or Mildenhall based tankers and the tankers return after refuelling to Mildenhall is an option. In the past the accompanying tankers flew with the fighters to the destination and returned afterwards to Mildenhall.

Ok, makes sense. The ones from Ohio a couple of years ago stopped in Spangdahlem first on their way home.

The F-16s just departed from Madison at 0750z as CUBE 51-56 and they were cleared to EPLK, Lask airbase.
