Trouble is mostly for shots on the runway. As soon as the aircraft are airborne, they get high enough to be seen over most of the static aircraft. But mind you can be fooled about where they pop up over the static display (I missed the Vulcan's start on friday in '09 as I didn't expect it to need such a short take-off run). Also in the past some big aircraft have been put on the side of the public area (think KC-135, KDC-10, Vulcan)

If you ask politely, most people will allow to take short timed static shots, as long as you don't stay there all the time to watch the complete show.
