Orange - Caritat (BA115) (LFMO) - 2013 MIL
I'm flying to Marseilles on Wednesday for work, but I'm arriving at 1pm already and have the rest of the afternoon off. I would like to go to Orange to do some photography. Are there any things going on that prevent them from flying? I mean things like exercises elsewhere, night flying, runway maintenance, etc.
Also, what do normal flying days look like in terms of sorties and take-off and landing times?

Check out the link below, it is the official website of BA 115. Now, my french is not that good but I think that there is no flying at Orange this week. Better luck next time!

I will aim for Istres then, which is equally far I think...Let me know in case you know a website for Istre as well. I didn't find a similar one like Orange.
Re: Orange - Caritat (BA115) (LFMO) - 2013 MIL
Well, if you fly into Marseille, Istres is located on the other side off the bay. But I guess it will take some time to find the right spot; Istres can be difficult. Scramble's airfieldguide could come in handy!
I haven't found a similar site about Istres either! But you can check the link below for some info about movements (with pics!) at Istres lately. There is a lot going on at Istres since the French became active in Mali. This has it's consequences on security around the airbase, the Gendarmerie can be active. Happy hunting!

I will check it out tomorrow, I have the airfield guide so should be able to find some spots to have a look. It's nice to have more activity

As far as I understand, there is flying activity at Orange this week... even some night flying! So, I should go at least in the afternoon.

Re: Orange - Caritat (BA115) (LFMO) - 2013 MIL
Thanks for all the info. After arriving at Marseille airport I took the rental car and went to Istres to be safe. I was there from 15.00-17.30 or so. Activity was low. I only spotted two civilian aircraft but also one tanker that did a total of 8 landing approaches(!). That means I was entertained almost the whole time and I actually did some searching for a descent spot to shoot some pictures. In the end I found a nice spot where I had the late afternoon sun in my back.
I hope to go to Orange next time I'm in Marseille. Orange seems a better base to me for photography.

I'am in the south of France and will visit Orange. The link http://www.base-aerienne-orange.com/ind ... ion-de-vol , posted by Erik, appears not to work anymore.
Does anybody knows what the best flying days at Orange are?

Hi Wouter,
I was at Orange myself last thursday and there were no flying activities at all. It looks like Orange was not active for a part of the last week. Let's hope that our luck changes next week!
The Mirages from Istres were very busy last week, buzzing up the neighbourhood!
Happy hunting!

An hour spent at a very silent Orange. Only this departing chopper was logged. No mirage action so I decided to relocate to Marseille.
